Taylor Swift Meets 'New Girl' in First-Look Photo
May 02, 2013 02:05:49Taylor Swift will lend her star power to "New Girl" for the show's season 2 finale. First look at her guest appearance on the show has now landed online via Entertainment Weekly, showing her encounter with Zooey Deschanel's Jess.
The country music beauty will cameo as Elaine, a guest at Cece's (Hannah Simone) wedding. Showrunner Liz Meriwether doesn't reveal what brings Swift to Cece and Shivrang's (Satya Bhabha) nuptials, but admits, "I'm a huge fan of her. I was fully geeking out about meeting [Swift]. I didn't go to meet her right away because I kind of had to compose myself - there's a 14-year-old girl inside of me."

The country music beauty will play a character named Elaine, an "important guest" at the wedding of Cece (Hannah Simone) and Shivrang (Satya Bhabha), in the show's season 2 finale which is set to air May 14, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Swift is scheduled to tape her scene next week during a break of her Red Tour. Though she has never appeared on the FOX sitcom before, her name was mentioned several times on the show, including when Schmidt (Max Greenfield) said he was going through a "Taylor Swift-like range of emotions" after breaking up with Cece. Zooey Deschanel's Jess also said she "just wanted to listen to Taylor Swift alone" after splitting with Dr. Sam (David Walton).

After the episode aired, creator Liz Meriwether reveals the kiss almost didn't happen. "There is actually an early draft of the script where he just says, 'Not like this,' and then they didn't kiss at the end," she shares. Meriwether and the writers later changed the script just a week before shooting.

The network ordered additional 11 episodes of the Zooey Deschanel-starring comedy, bringing its season 1 order to 24 episodes and making it the first freshman which gets full season pickup this fall.

'New Girl' Has Strong Debut as 'Glee' Slips

FOX's new show "New Girl" made an impressive performance on its debut night with 10.1 million total viewers (4.8 rating) tuning in the episode which aired on Tuesday, September 20 while its lead-in, popular series "Glee", only drew 8.7 million viewers (3.8 rating).
"New Girl" total audience was up 36% compared to the one garnered by the premiere of "Raising Hope" in September 2010 which was led by the "Glee" second season opener. Its rating in demo also showed a 55% bump, marking the highest-rated fall sitcom debut in a decade for FOX.
