Jesse L. Martin Quit 'Law and Order' Because He Doesn't Want to Dim Himself

Actor has no regrets about hanging up his shield and leaving "", insisting he would have been "dimming" himself as an actor if he had stayed on the show. Martin quit the crime drama in 2008 after a nine-year run playing Detective Ed Green.

He has gone on to shoot independent TV and film projects, as well as returning to the stage in a New York production of "The Merchant of Venice". And he is adamant he doesn't miss the stability of a well-paid TV job, because his craft would have suffered if he continued as the same character.

AMC Reportedly Considering 'Law and Order'

"" may get to be the longest running American drama series of all time after all. There is reportedly a talk between NBC Universal who owns the franchise and AMC to revive the show which had been running for 20 seasons before NBC decided to cancel it in May.

The negotiation is not yet officially announced and the source came from NY Mag's Vulture which said the network "quietly" approached NBC Universal for the possibility to produce new episodes. There are three things, in fact, why AMC would want to pick up the series.

Long-running U.S. cop show "" has been canceled after 20 years. Dick Wolf's highly-successful New York-based drama premiered in America in 1990 and went on to spawn two separate spin-offs - "" and "".

A Los Angeles-based "Law & Order" is still being planned. But the original has been scrapped. TV executives at NBC have decided not to take the original format into its 21st season, confirming to E! Online that the show has been axed.

The original criminal drama has just been picked up for four additional episodes that would bring the 20th season to a total of 20 episodes and along with the announcement, NBC's Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad revealed there would be a Los Angeles edition.

During Winter TCA Press Tour, Bromstad emphasized "" is still in very early stages. "We're talking about writers," she said about the franchise. "We officially call that LOLA," Jeff Gaspin, NBC Television Entertainment Chairman chimed in.

Some scenes are clipped from the season 20 premiere of "". The longest-running crime drama series will be back on Friday, September 25 with the episode where a young war veteran Greg Tanner is found murdered in a Hudson University parking garage. Cyrus and Kevin put their suspicion over an attorney who formerly worked for the Department of Justice.

In the first half-hour, Cyrus and Kevin Bernard investigate crimes and apprehend suspects under the supervision of their precinct lieutenant, Anita. In the second half-hour, the focus shifts to the criminal courts as Chief Assistant District Attorney Michael Cutter and the Executive Assistant District Attorney Connie Rubirosa work within a complicated justice system to prosecute the accused under the guidance of the no-nonsense District Attorney Jack McCoy.

Six new clips from "" have been released as sneak peeks to episode 19.05. The clips of the December 3 episode entitled "Knock Off" are compiled in one video player posted below. Most of the clips focus on the character Dianne Cary and the investigation of a murder case.

The "Knock Off" episode itself will revolve around a tourist from upstate New York who comes to the city to settle his past, but his trip ends quickly when he is suspiciously murdered. When detective Bernard and detective Lupo come to the city to investigate the murder case, they discover the involvement of Sheriff John Burkhart and his deputies on the murder. Meanwhile, D.A. Jack McCoy faces new competition when a new District Attorney is nominated for the election.

'Law and Order' Comes Back Sooner on NBC

NBC has announced that "", the crime drama which is scheduled to air for its 19th season in early 2009, will comeback sooner for its premiere on November 5. The series' new season will be aired at the same time as its regular schedule on NBC, Wednesday night at 10 P.M.

The new season will reunite main characters from the previous seasons such as Detective Cyrus Lupo (), Detective Kevin Bernard (), and Anita Van Buren (). "Law & Order", a police legal drama created by Dick Wolf, is the longest-running drama series of American television since its debut on September 13, 1990. The series received 10.8 million viewers for its last season.
