An innocent nurse sits at a desk covering the night shift at a German mental hospital when she's approached by two strange men, who shoot and kill her. The two men walk through the hospital until they reach the room where a young man, Mathias, is kept. They grab him, take him to a car and tell him he must cooperate with them. Back in Los Angeles, the Blooms start the day off right. After a morning lovemaking session, Samantha suggests they spend the whole day in bed. Before she can get the words out, Steven already has his phone and remote control in hand, proving he's addicted to technology.

Steven and Samantha head downstairs for some breakfast, only to find Shaw sitting at their dining room table, reading the newspaper and eating French toast. A semi-reliable informant to the CIA, Hans Bauer claims to have information concerning a code-breaking device that could expose all CIA operative names. Their mission is to travel to Berlin, meet with Bauer and determine whether his information is reliable or not. After Shaw leaves, Samantha asks Steven if it will feel weird to be partners in the field since they're married.

At Bloom Catering, Steven and Samantha meet with a client who Lizzy thinks is cute. After he arranges for the company to cater his stepfather's funeral, Samantha asks Lizzy to run point on the job since she and Steven have to return to San Francisco on more hotel business. When they arrive in Berlin, Steven finds Bauer while Samantha looks on from a distance. Bauer tells Steven that he has infiltrated a German crime syndicate that has obtained a code-breaking device that they're planning to sell in the next 48 hours. While Samantha looks on, the Germans have Bauer in the sites of a sniper rifle. Samantha spots them, warns Steven. They aim, shoot and kill Bauer. Steven manages to get away untouched. The Germans were not able to ID him.

On the way back to the hotel, Steven and Samantha argue about field procedure. Samantha's upset that Steven didn't listen to her warning about the roof shooter get out of harm's way sooner. During their disagreement, Hoyt appears. Setting their argument aside, Steven and Samantha get to work on the case with Hoyt, who's able to identify a marking on a black Mercedes, seen leaving the garage near the shooting. If they find the car, they find the shooter. The marking on the car leads the trio to a private club. When Steven arrives at the club, he finds Leo at the bar, having been sent to join their team. Hoyt and Samantha case the garage for the marked car.

Leo shows Steven a picture of a girl he met earlier that day and plans to meet up with later that night. Uninterested in Leo's quest, Steven refocuses them on the mission at hand. When he spots a familiar face, he takes drinks over to the table, interrupting what looks to be a business conversation. Leo sends Hoyt a thumbprint to run against the CIA database, and Hoyt's able to ID Steven's new friend as Ernesto Santos, a negotiator for a Spanish terrorist group. They identify him as the buyer, assuming the German man with him is the seller. Hoyt doesn't have any luck IDing the second print. They decide to follow the pair upon leaving the club.

The two men from the club enter an office building. Steven, Samantha, Leo and Hoyt watch from the car. Upstairs, the young man from the mental hospital is hard at work on a computer program. Leo distracts a guard outside the building long enough to knock him unconscious and take his uniform. Steven and Samantha scale the building from the back to find an entrance on the roof. Samantha patches Hoyt, who stays in the car, into the building's security system. After accessing the security feed, Hoyt's able to see and hear the seller's conversation. It appears that the device is in the building and the deal is going down when Ernesto's associate arrives with the money.

Hoyt watches as the young boy, Mathias, leaves what they assume to be the unprotected device on the table in the 10th floor conference room. Hoyt gives Steven and Samantha the go ahead to retrieve it. Watching the security camera footage, Hoyt gives them directions to navigate to the conference room. When Ernesto's associate arrives, the Germans proceed with the deal. Once the money is handed over, the Germans double cross Ernesto and his associate, shooting them dead. Hoyt loses the security feed moments later. Leo leaves his post and enters the building after Steven and Samantha.

Steven, Samantha and Leo manage to make it out of the building in one piece with what they assume to be the device. The Germans get away with Mathias. Steven, Samantha, Leo and Hoyt are able to return to the States with the device in hand. Back at Bloom Catering, Lizzy shows Steven and Samantha the menu for the funeral. Samantha's quite pleased with Lizzy's progress. Later that night, Steven and Samantha meet with Shaw, who explains that the device they brought home is nothing more than a computer hard drive. The real device is still out there. They've put the lives of all CIA operatives at risk. Shaw decides to pull them off the case.

Back in Germany, Mathias is hard at work on the computer program. In Los Angeles, Steven and Samantha talk through a plan to fix their mistake. Samantha suggests that maybe working together as team after five years out of the field isn't as easy as they'd hoped. Convinced they missed something, Steven suggests they review the security camera footage to look for clues. When reviewing it, they notice the young boy is the only one not wearing a suit. Questioning his connection, they run a database search based on his name bracelet, finding a match with a missing patient from a German mental hospital. With an IQ like Mathias', Steven and Samantha realize he isn't there to work on the device, he IS the device. They immediately take the information to Shaw.

When Shaw suggests he needs to run the latest intel up the chain of command, Steven disagrees, telling Shaw he's making the decision. They're going back to Germany. Once they're on the ground, Samantha and Hoyt drive a utility van, while Leo and Steven hide in the rear after destroying the home's power source. After passing security at the front gate, they search the house for Mathias. Just as they arrive, Mathias finishes the work and is prepared to unlock the CIA database. When a security guard discovers the power source was destroyed intentionally, he alerts the rest of the team.

Samantha is captured. Steven and Leo go in after her. Steven finds Samantha and Mathias, shoots the Germans, and then takes them into custody. Mathias, unsure who to trust, eventually lets his guard down and trusts Steven. Back home, Shaw debriefs Steven and Samantha on the final report of the mission, and the CIA's plans for Mathias. After Shaw leaves, Lizzy confesses that she made out with the client's son at the funeral. At home, Samantha finally admits to Steven that technology is good. They also admit that being married and being partners in the field adds a dynamic they embrace.
