Undercovers Episode 1.02 Instructions

Private security officer John Seidel is working detail in Karachi, Pakistan. He takes a call discussing a deal he has in play to kidnap a scientist, Dr. Nasir. Dr. Nasir is capable of developing a bomb small enough to be placed in a cell phone, but with a large enough impact to leave any previous embassy bombings in the dust. John indicates to his contact that he has already captured Nasir's husband. John's brother Bruce is also working security detail with him, but is unaware of John's plans. Once inside the facility with the businessman he is escorting, John confirms Dr. Nasir is working there and then kills the businessman. Hollis Kruger, another security officer, is in on the plan with John.

John enters the lab, eliminating all of the workers until he finds Dr. Nasir. When she asks why would she ever help him do anything, John shows Dr. Nasir a picture of her husband and assures her that he's safe�for now. At Bloom Catering, the staff gives Steven a hard time for breaking an expensive coffee machine because he didn't read the instructions. Before he catches too much grief, Shaw appears. Upstairs in the office, Shaw gives Steven and Samantha their next mission. The Seidel brothers and Hollis Kruger are wanted for the kidnapping of Dr. Nasir and the murders of her employers and colleagues. The Seidel brothers have gone missing, but the agency has tracked Kruger to Turks and Caicos.

Shaw leaves after handing Steven and Samantha their assignment. Samantha immediately tells Lizzy that she will need to take over the catering job for the engagement party because she and Steven have to go back to San Francisco for a job at the hotel. Lizzy is concerned that Samantha and Steven are taking the job at the hotel because the catering company isn't making any money and they are going to eventually shut it down. She's worried that will put her out of a job and frankly, cause her to start drinking again. At home later that night, Samantha and Steven pack and study the case file for their mission in Turks and Caicos.

Dr. Nasir's captors check the status of the bomb while Steven and Samantha arrive in Turks and Caicos in search of Kruger. Samantha puts on her bikini and heads down to the pool. She introduces herself to Kruger, from Johannesburg, and they immediately hit it off. Steven watches from a lounge chair across the pool until Hoyt arrives, who has taken a job as a cabana boy to keep an eye on Samantha. Steven goes up to Kruger's room to find some intel on Dr. Nasir's whereabouts. He breaks into the safe and finds papers with information about Dr. Nasir. Steven asks Samantha to lure Kruger up to his room.

Hoyt alerts Steven that Samantha and Kruger are on their way up to his room. Steven finishes putting the tracking device in Kruger's watch. Hoyt tries to tell him there are a few new features with the tracking device that he might want to know about it, but Steven doesn't care. Samantha and Kruger enter the room. Just as Kruger kisses Samantha, she punches him and Steven puts a gun to his head. They tie him up and begin to interrogate him, masking themselves as members from a competitive private security detail. Kruger tells them the entire operation was John's idea.

Kruger reveals to Steven and Samantha what happened - and that he is a pawn in Seidel's master plan. They manage to track an address for Seidel to an apartment in Caracas. Steven agrees to stay with Kruger and go to the exchange with his contact, while Hoyt and Samantha travel to Caracas to find Seidel. Once they touch down, Hoyt and Samantha immediately locate Seidel's apartment. Hoyt fires on Bruce, John's brother. Bruce takes off. Hoyt and Samantha are on the run to catch him; Samantha by foot, Hoyt in the car. Hoyt eventually hits him with his car. Back in Turks and Caicos, Steven accompanies Kruger to meet his contact.

Hoyt and Samantha take Bruce back to the apartment. There, Bruce says he was not told about the plan beforehand. After John killed everyone, they took Dr. Nasir in a car to meet a plane that would take them out of Pakistan. But it was Kruger who changed things. He shot John and Bruce in the car and left them for dead in the desert. John died, Bruce survived. Bruce tells Hoyt and Samantha that the man they're looking for isn't John Seidel, its Hollis Kruger. Back in Turks and Caicos, Kruger puts a plan in motion to distract Steven long enough to escape his watchful eye. Just as Kruger disappears, Samantha calls Steven with the news that Kruger is their man.

Back at Bloom Catering, Steven and Samantha meet with Shaw to debrief him on the mission. Shaw is trying to understand how they had the man responsible, Kruger, in custody but let him escape. And to top it off, the tracking device Steven planted in Kruger's watch was never activated, proving Samantha's point that Steven never reads directions. So, Shaw brings Leo onto the team to help locate Kruger. While Leo, Samantha and Steven work out a strategy for finding Kruger and Dr. Nasir, the doctor's bomb is being tested by Kruger's men before they use it at the Global Business Summit in Sweden.

Lizzy interrupts their strategy session to gather opinions on her quiche. Leo grabs the first bite and grabs Lizzy's attention. As soon as Steven walks Leo out, Samantha tells Lizzy that Leo is off limits. Back at Steven and Samantha's house, they pick up where their strategy session left off. Steven attempts to fix the coffee pot he broke earlier, and Leo tries to figure out where to send the signal to activate Kruger tracking device. Steven confronts Leo on his previous relationship with Samantha and tells him that information about their pasts in the CIA have not been shared with each other. Just as the conversation ends, the tracking device comes online. Kruger is in Stockholm, Sweden.

Steven, Samantha, Leo and Hoyt are in Stockholm to track Kruger. They arrive at a shipyard, the last place Kruger's device sent a signal. Hoyt waits in the car while the three search the ship. Samantha finds Dr. Nasir lying on the ground of the cargo hold, injured from a gunshot wound. Still lucid, Dr. Nasir confirms it was Kruger who shot her. She tells them he's headed to the Global Business Summit. Hoyt confirms that the summit is taking place only two miles from the shipyard. Kruger arrives at the summit and hands over his cell phone, at security's request. Hoyt stays with Dr. Nasir while Samantha, Steven and Leo head to the summit.

In the ambulance, Dr. Nasir tells Hoyt she created a bomb that she placed in Kruger's cell phone. Hoyt immediately calls Samantha with the intel before she walks through security and gives up her own phone. Samantha goes with security to search the already-seized phones while Steven and Leo search for Kruger. Samantha manages to find the phone with the bomb. Steven finds Kruger. It's a race against time. Samantha has to disarm the bomb; Steven's on a foot chase with Kruger, and Dr. Nasir is fighting for her life.

Samantha cuts the black wire, stopping the bomb's timer, and Steven takes down Kruger. When they return home, Shaw lets them know that he has requested Leo be assigned to the Blooms on a semi-permanent basis. In bed, Steven brings Samantha a hot cup of coffee from their now-working espresso maker.
