The third time's the charm, they say, and reformed party girl Kate is hoping that's true when she becomes the third wife of a slightly older man, Pete. They fell into each others' arms (literally) at a karaoke bar, and flash forward a year later, Kate finds herself with an instafamily complete with three stepchildren and two ex-wives. But Kate is determined to make this work and become a part of the family no matter what.
Kate feels she's still proving herself to Pete's ex-wives and the kids, so she offers to handle a parent-teacher meeting at 15-year-old Warren's school.
Unfortunately she finds Warren's mom, Diane, there as well, and things spiral out of control when a vodka incident involving Warren's younger sister Hillary leaves Kate in a compromising position (read: drunk in the afternoon!).
Meanwhile, Kate's BFF Meg has been spending some quality time with Kate's other step-son, Bert. Bert "I'm from China" Harrison is the precocious 8-year-old son Jackie and Pete adopted from China. After a battle of wits leaves Bert the victor, Meg finds herself buying a $100 Lego fire station.
Whew! It all comes hilariously to a head when the whole family (plus Meg) converges back at home. It's just another day in the life of this new, big, blended family.
