Primeval Episode 1.04 Episode 4

News arrives of a creature sighting in an apartment in a housing project. Special Forces storm the building, closely followed by Cutter, Stephen, and Connor. They burst into the bathroom to find...a python. As Stephen and Abby attempt to bag the snake, Connor asks if he can stay at Abby's house, and she absentmindedly agrees.

Meanwhile, inside the Home Office maximum security wing, Helen is being pumped for information about the anomalies by Lester and Claudia. She eventually agrees to tell all to Cutter, but when he meets with her, she accuses him of betraying her. However, she tells him that a pride of sabre-tooth cats could come through a new anomaly, and she will take them to it.

When a flock of comical-looking dodos appear through the anomaly, no one realizes that they have brought with them a dangerous parasite.

Tom and Duncan drop Connor off at Abby's flat, and they have bugged his bag with a tracking device hidden in a key-ring. Connor makes himself at home in Abby's flat until Stephen arrives to summon them to the latest anomaly site.

At the Home Office, Cutter explains Helen's theory of the potential threat to Claudia and Lester, trying to reassure them of her motives. The teams race to the site - the kitchen area of a football stadium. They open the industrial fridge doors and find the anomaly, proving Helen was right. Tom and Duncan wait in the stadium car park, tracking Connor and hatching conspiracy theories. Back inside, Helen creates a diversion and escapes through the anomaly. Cutter is stopped from pursuing her, but Stephen and Ryan go through to bring her back. They arrive in a field full of anomalies, with no sign of Helen.

Back in the present day, Claudia is accusing Cutter of trying to go with Helen when a flock of dodos bursts through the anomaly. The team manages to catch them all and send them back through the anomaly before it fades, except one which seems dead. However, unobserved by the team during the confusion, one hungry dodo ate the tracking device in Connor's keyring and escaped to the car park where it was captured by Tom and Duncan. They take it back to their flat, where it starts behaving erratically and bites Tom.

Meanwhile, Cutter, Stephen and Abby are performing an autopsy on the dead dodo when a parasite emerges from its beak, which Stephen catches in a bell jar. They conclude that the parasite makes the host attack others in order to pass on its spawn, and then kills the host. Unaware of the danger, Tom is feeling increasingly unwell and tries to attack Duncan...
