It's the middle of the night, and all three couples have intruder scares. Rex faces the problem head on with his lacrosse stick, and is disappointed to find that it's only a possum. Dave gets out of bed to silence a group of rowdy guys outside, but Julia beats him to the punch, screaming obscenities from the window. Vance and Amy hide behind a shoe rack when they hear noises; Amy's completely calm while Vance is shamelessly terrified.

The whole gang is sick with what appears to be the stomach flu. Leigh blames it on Julia (she's not much of a hand washer), but we soon discover that the cause was the summer rolls Leigh made for a menu tasting for Vance and Amy. Apparently, Leigh's coming out of retirement to plan their wedding. Vance is against the entire thing, worried that Leigh's going to orchestrate the wedding of her dreams, not his and Amy's. Dave, Rex, and Vance debate the merits of Leigh's involvement. The discussion devolves into a rehash of a summer camp possum incident that left Dave traumatized.

Julia has food poisoning from the summer rolls and refuses to let Dave take care of her. It turns out this is a regular occurrence; Julia's extremely independent and refuses to rely on Dave for anything. When he shares this issue with the guys, they suggest he create a problem she can't fix so she has no choice but to come to him for help. Dave decides to sabotage the computer; it's the only thing Julia can't fix on her own. However, he accidentally records himself stealing the ethernet cable on the computer's webcam, and Julia and Amy see the entire charade. Admitting Julia constantly emasculates Dave, Amy suggests that Julia throw him a bone once in a while.

When Amy and Vance go to Leigh and Rex's place to review some wedding details, the food poisoning incident comes up. Leigh's still convinced that it was the stomach flu, not her summer rolls. She's so insulted by Amy and Vance's accusation that she says if they continue to believe it was her fault, she'll step down from her position as wedding planner. Vance, who wants Amy out, is excited by this prospect. He presents the leftover summer rolls she prepared: if she's so convinced her food is fine, she'll eat a roll to prove her point. If she refuses to eat it, she has to step down. Leigh won't back down, and Rex supports her as they eat the summer rolls together.

Rex and Leigh are both clearly sick with food poisoning, but they refuse to admit it. Gloating in his victory, Vance invites Leigh to take a drive to discuss wedding plans in one of Rex's showroom cars. Visibly ill, Rex agrees to lend out the car because he maintains he has no reason to believe Leigh will get sick. In the car, Vance again voices his concerns about the wedding. Leigh tells him everything he wants to hear, this time making sure Vance is included in the wedding planning details. Vance is pleased, and asks Leigh to officially be their wedding planner.

Julia decides to play along with Dave's plan and asks for help with the computer. He happily assumes his husbandly duties and asks his wife to "get him a cold one." When she goes into the garage to get the beer, she comes across a dead possum. Terrified, she demands that Dave take care of it immediately. Considering his history with possums, Dave is more than hesitant, but he mans up and goes into the garage. But when he and the dead possum lock eyes, he sprints out and calls the guys for backup. After serious deliberation, they take the possum out back with a shovel and Rex launches it into the woods with his lacrosse arm.

Dave tells Julia that he took care of the issue and the possum is far into the woods. But when the two start to get busy on the couch, they're interrupted by the body of the possum lying on the skylight directly above them. Apparently Rex's lacrosse arm wasn't as strong as they thought, because the possum didn't make it very far. Caught in a lie, Dave shares his secret with Julia; he's deathly afraid of possums and had to call the guys for help. He tells her that he wanted to prove he can take care of her. Julia argues that in an honest marriage, like theirs, they shouldn't have to worry about fulfilling certain roles. Then, like a true modern couple, they deal with the possum together.
