It's Leslie and Ben's one-year anniversary! While they've agreed not to exchange gifts this year, each of them has secretly procured the best anniversary gift ever. Meanwhile, Leslie continues to battle negative sentiment over the recent Eagleton-Pawnee merger.

Back at the office, Ben solicits help from Larry to prep his office for a Valentine's Day surprise. Ron visits April at the animal shelter to pick out a dog for his new stepchildren. The transaction doesn't go well, though, because Donna has abandoned her position at the front desk to go shopping.

April struggles to assert her authority over Donna, who is technically her employee now. Instead, she secretly slanders Donna where it hurts most: Twitter. Larry tries to lure Leslie to Ben's office for her Valentine's Day surprise, but she's too stressed from dealing with the merger issue. Then, an epiphany strikes: she'll highlight an Eagleton/Pawnee couple celebrating their 50th anniversary. It's the perfect symbol of unity between the two towns.

Leslie, Tom and Andy head to the home of Mr. and Mrs. DeMarco, the Eagleton/Pawnee couple celebrating their 50th anniversary. The couple is disappointed that the visit doesn't include a monetary prize, so Leslie, Tom and Andy empty their pockets to convince the couple to participate in the celebration.

Meanwhile, Donna begins investigating the identity of the person who slandered her on Twitter. April grows nervous that her scheme will be unearthed, since Donna is brutal and ruthless in her quest for vengeance. Ben preps a fairy tale-style carriage ride to surprise Leslie, but she's too busy to participate. Ben decides to take Larry on the carriage ride instead, and on the way, the two men begin to learn that they have a lot in common.

Leslie quickly discovers that the old married couple she's promoting are cantankerous and rude to each other; not exactly the ideal couple to promote a happy union. During their Pawnee Today interview, the couple quickly outs Leslie for bribing them and gets into a couples' quarrel that ruins the whole scheme.

Meanwhile, Ben and Larry take in the non-refundable tango dancing class Ben had planned to take with Leslie. Unraveling under the stress of Donna's troll hunt, April eventually confesses that she was the one who slandered Donna on Twitter. When Donna reveals she knew the whole time (thanks to her sensational sleuthing skills), the two agree to be open and honest with one another.

The next day, Leslie organizes a youth committee to formulate a solution to the Pawnee/Eagleton controversy. In an hour, Tom and Andy devise a town unity concert to celebrate the music, art and culture of their community. Leslie is literally speechless, which confuses some of the committee members. After the meeting, Ben presents Leslie with a scrapbook of his and Larry's day together. Just when Ben thinks he's bested Leslie at surprises, she presents him with the iron throne from Game of Thrones.
