Leslie struggles to cope with the fact that she's been voted out of office. On her last day as a city councilwoman, she walks her replacement, Ingrid DeForest, through the ins and outs of councilwomanship. Leslie is clearly repressing her feelings of frustration, and it's only a matter of time before she explodes.

Meanwhile, Ann and Chris visit Dr. Saperstein's office for a baby checkup. The doctor asks Ann and Chris if they'd like to know the gender of the baby, but they're not ready for it. Saperstein writes the baby's gender on a piece of paper and places it in an envelope so that Ann and Chris can look at it whenever they want. They eventually decide to read Saperstein's note, but they can't decipher his handwriting. Chris has literally never been more stressed out.

Desperate to cheer up his heartbroken wife, Ben tries to find the perfect gift for Leslie. Unfortunately, he keeps coming up with terrible ideas. In the hallway, Leslie catches a portion of the news showing Councilman Dexhardt pleading guilty to a series of scandalous sexual misconduct charges, which sparks an idea: Leslie will run for city council again, this time to oust Dexhardt from his seat!

With the money from his Rent-a-Swag sale, Tom decides to invest in someone else's brilliant idea. He auditions local inventors for their brilliant ideas, but Pawnee just isn't delivering. Tom decides to turn to his fellow Parks Department employees for business pitches, but he gets nothing.

Back at the office, Ben frantically tries to talk Leslie out of running against Dexhardt to get back onto the city council, but she's not having it. When she announces her plans to her friends, they all agree with Ben. Meanwhile, Tom takes a page from April's playbook and decides to create a new position for himself: Pawnee Business Liaison, responsible for drawing new businesses to town. Ron is all for the idea.

Ben finally figures out the perfect gift for Leslie. He buys one hour of consulting from Jen Barkley. After hearing Leslie's plan, Jen encourages her to go for it. Who knows? Maybe she can beat Dexhardt. Regardless of the election, Jen tells Leslie that she definitely has a big future in politics. With her press conference only minutes away, Leslie has a big decision to make.

Ann and Chris finally manage to get Saperstein back to his office in order to determine the gender of the baby. The results: it's a boy! Meanwhile, Leslie decides to use the press conference to thank the residents of Pawnee for allowing her to serve on their city council. Afterward, Ben has another surprise for his beloved: a romantic trip to Paris.
