One Big Happy Episode 1.06 Wedlocked

With Luke gone, Prudence has taken to sleeping in Lizzy's bed - against Lizzy's wishes. But sleeping in her own bed has become unbearable for Prudence, who's constantly reminded of her and Luke's nighttime ritual - Luke kisses every part of Prudence to sleep - and his erotic poetry when she's in there. When Lizzy doubts Luke has ever written a poem, Prudence pulls one out of her bra. She explains that every night, Luke would write one word on a note on her pillow and by the end of the week, it'd make a poem. A poem involving the word junk, but a poem nonetheless. Lizzy knows Prudence sincerely loves Luke, but she also tells Prudence that Luke has a good reason for being upset. Prudence admits she doesn't know why she lied about being married but chalks it up to being ashamed. She asks if Lizzy has ever kept a secret like that, one that didn't need to be kept a secret, prompting Lizzy to open up about being in the closet. In that moment, Lizzy and Prudence realize they might not be so different after all, and Lizzy agrees to talk to Luke on Prudence's behalf.

Luke, meanwhile, has been staying with Marcus, where he's punched a hole in the wall and cried while Marcus held him. Marcus hasn't minded being there for his friend, but now he wants something in return: for Luke to be his wingman. Luke is hesitant, but Lizzy arrives then, with Luke's wedding suit in hand. He tells her he can't marry Prudence when he's not sure he can ever trust her again. Lizzy understands but advocates for Prudence, which prompts Luke to question her motives. Lizzy has always wanted Prudence gone, and a part of him even thinks Lizzy flew in Prudence's ex-husband on purpose to sabotage his marriage. Lizzy is horrified by the accusation but doesn't back down. She tells Luke she knows he really loves Prudence - she saw the sex poems - but Luke's mind remains unchanged. Instead, he's going on a date tonight.

Back home, Lizzy rants to Leisha about Luke believing she ruined his marriage on purpose. Like a good sister, Leisha tells Lizzy she can be an evil monster. She reminds Lizzy of when they were kids and Lizzy purposely killed her pet, Rodney Danger-Fish, because she got to attend Paula Abdul dance camp and Lizzy didn't. Lizzy is once again appalled by the accusation but ultimately realizes Leisha is right. It's possible she did subconsciously break up Luke and Prudence. In order to get them back together, Lizzy takes a tip from Leisha, who says whenever she gets really mad at Roy, she just remembers why she fell in love with him in the first place. Her words inspire Lizzy to recreate the moment Luke and Prudence fell in love.

Luckily, Luke is on his double date with Marcus at the same bar where he met Prudence. He's not having any fun with his date, Jackie, a cashier at Target who's not the most mentally stable tool in the shed. But the night takes a turn for the better when he spots Prudence standing behind the bar, just like the day they met. Lizzy sneaked in Prudence and stationed her there, knowing that once Luke laid eyes on her again, he'd want to get back together. But what Lizzy didn't count on was Jackie, Luke's date, interrupting. When Prudence sees Luke has already moved on, she runs out.

When Luke and Lizzy get home, Prudence is packing. Luke explains he was only at the bar to act as Marcus' wingman and that nothing happened between him and Jackie. Prudence says she wants to make it work, but she doesn't know how if Luke doesn't trust her. Luke says he wants to and asks if there's anything else he should know. In one fell swoop, Prudence reveals she grew up an ugly duckling, that one of her ears is fake due to a trolley accident, that she was once arrested for stealing pickles and that she can't pronounce the world tadpole. After she bares her soul, Luke tells Prudence he loves her and she reciprocates. They're back together! And going at it in the living room until Lizzy separates them and sends Luke back to Marcus' apartment to change into his wedding suit. There's less than an hour to go until Prudence's visa expires.

Unfortunately for Luke, it's not just his suit waiting for him at Marcus': Jackie is there and she's not taking no for an answer. Despite Luke's best attempts to leave, Jackie manages to handcuff herself to him and throws Luke's cell phone out the window. Back at the house, Lizzy has transformed the backyard into a romantic wedding venue, and blushing bride Prudence is ready to walk down the aisle. But they're still missing a groom. With only 20 minutes to go before Prudence's visa expires, Luke is still handcuffed to a now passed-out Jackie and has no way of contacting Lizzy and Prudence. So, with no other options available, Lizzy agrees to marry Prudence. While it's not ideal, Lizzy says Luke is her best friend and he'd be heartbroken if Prudence had to leave. She admits she hasn't always liked Prudence but she has grown to love her. And with that surprising declaration, Lizzy and Prudence say "I do."

When Luke finally arrives, he sees Roy snapping wedding photos of Lizzy and Prudence. Jackie is still handcuffed to him (and dragging behind him), but Prudence quickly frees him by unlocking the handcuffs with a bobby pin. Luke is ready to make it official, but Prudence breaks the bad news: it's too late. Then, Leisha hits him with a bombshell: "My sister married your wife." Luke is touched that Lizzy would do that for him. His appreciation soon turns to shock, however, when Prudence says I love you and both he and Lizzy say it back. This one big family has finally become one big happy family.
