Earl and Randy were having fun inside the motel when Joy came in and crashed their good time. She warned Earl that an old girlfriend of his, Jesse, was back in town and wanted revenge. Joy told Earl that Jesse was armed with a shotgun and a vendetta. This made Earl want to focus on #145 on his list, 'Ditched Jesse to marry Joy.'

Earl recalled his and Jesse's romance from back in 1999. They met when she was a secretary at the bail bond shop Earl frequented. They dated and for their three-week anniversary, she got him Metallica tickets. Earl cheated on Jessie with Joy and took Joy to the concert instead. Joy and Jesse got into a big fight and Joy punched out two of Jesse's teeth. Meanwhile, Earl felt bad for breaking Jesse's heart.

Jesse still worked for the bail bond shop and found out that Joy had a warrant for an outstanding traffic ticket. Jesse studied how to be a bounty hunter with the true intent of destroying Joy and making her 'pay' for her traffic ticket

Earl felt he had to do the right thing and find Jesse and apologize. He found her tearing up Joy and Darnell's trailer. He realized that Jesse was serious about getting revenge on Joy. He hid Joy in a trailer in the woods, and when Randy told Jesse where they were, Earl and Joy were on the run again. He offered to hide Joy in a motel at his expense. Joy then made an admission to Earl.

Joy admitted to Earl that when she first met him, she intentionally got him drunk so he would marry her and accept responsibility for her unborn child. She had made Earl think he just forgot the last nine months. Now, Joy felt guilty because he was trying to make things right with Jesse, when Joy was the one who stole Earl away from her by using deception. She crossed Jesse off of Earl's list.
