No. 86 on Earl's list makes him nervous because he stole a car from a one-legged girl. He visits her house and gets beat up by her boyfriend. But he receives a sign while being beaten ' No. 4: Blew his dad's chances at being mayor.

Earl tries to convince his dad to run for mayor again. His father was always frustrated with the world, but he was also always there to bail out Earl and Randy. That is, until he finally gave up on them. The one thing Earl did that disappointed his father the most, though, was ruining his chance at becoming mayor.

Earl finally decides to pay his dad a visit. He tries to convince him to run again but he won't. Earl enters him into the election anyway, but he wants more than to just cross this off the list. He wants to show his dad he has changed and wants them to be a family again.

Earl fills in for his dad at a debate with the current mayor, but his dad stops him. However, Earl shows the people that they need his dad to run again to get rid of airplane noise over the neighborhood. Earl's dad agrees to run again, but he still doesn't want Earl around because he thinks he's going to ruin things again.

Earl thinks his dad will lose, so he gets everyone he knows and others to register to vote. He even gets Joy to fill out a registration form. Unfortunately, Randy accidentally drops the forms from the car and they get arrested, again ruining their dad's chances of winning.

Earl's dad actually bails him out of jail but wants to get paid back. Earl realizes that in order to pay back his father, he needs to do more than just win him an election. He hopes that one day, if he keeps crossing items off his list, his dad will take notice.
