Missing Episode 1.02 The Hard drive

When we last left Becca Winstone, she was sinking into the Seine River after having been shot by an unseen assailant. She snaps back into consciousness and is able to pull herself out of the water. Becca makes her way to an upscale restaurant where the proprietor, Sylvie, ushers her into the kitchen to help treat her superficial bullet wound. Becca knows this woman from her operative days. Sylvie lets her know that she's on the Watch List for every security organization in Europe.

Sylvie provides Becca with a weapon and a warning. She advises her to stay far away from Antoine Lussier. Who is Antoine Lussier, you ask? He happens to be the corrupt Deputy Director of French Intelligence. He'd kill Becca in a heartbeat which is why she gets herself arrested in broad daylight. It's always better to have a face-to-face chat with a powerful bad man like this with witnesses around.

Becca wants Lussier to help her find Michael. He agrees to do so once she reveals that she knows where the hard drive is. Obviously, it has incriminating evidence on it. If Lussier finds Becca's son, she'll turn over the hard drive. Surprise, surprise. The "Hard Drive" is actually a person who has a photographic memory. Becca lets this man know it's time for him to testify against his old boss, Lussier. Hard Drive has no idea that her real plan is to trade him for her son.

Dax Miller is being pressured to bring in Becca. He learns that she built a case against Lussier in the past after he killed one of her assets and his family. Politics got in the way. Becca was cast as the fall person when two of Lussier's agents ended up dead. The case went away and Becca placed Hard Drive into hiding. She's the only one who has known his location for the past 12 years.

Hard Drive has so many bad memories of his time with Lussier. He knows all about the family that was killed by his old boss. The images of their dead bodies still haunt him. Becca is rethinking her arrangement with Lussier until he forwards her a recent video of Michael. They set up an exchange on a bridge. Becca hesitates to go through with her plan after she learns Hard Drive has a family. Unfortunately, it's too late to turn back now.

Lussier steps out of his car. He has a gun pointed at Michael's hood-covered head. Becca forces Hard Drive to cross over to Lussier as Michael walks toward her. Then...BANG! BANG! Becca fires at the man in the hood. She knows it's not Michael because her son's left foot turns out slightly when he walks. It's something only a mom would notice.

Becca tells Hard Drive they need to move his family now. She gets help from Giancarlo, who encourages Becca to stop thinking like a mom if she wants to get her son back. So she decides to break into the French Intelligence offices. The plan is to hack into Lussier's computer to find records of his illegal activities. Hard Drive knows every inch of the building, so he's going with her.

Dax's boss wants him to make a deal with Lussier, who makes a veiled threat on his family. Nevertheless, the two men agree to work together to get what they want. Speaking of getting what one wants, Becca and Hard Drive make for the perfect team as they sneak into French Intelligence. After causing a full building evacuation, the two infiltrators reach their destination: Lussier's office.

When two security guards approach, Becca quickly disarms them. She blows away the door leading to Lussier's computer. Hard Drive determines that Michael's kidnappers are moving him. He's being transported on an aircraft that's exempt from security procedures. Becca has 20 minutes to stop that plane.

Hard Drive remains behind long enough to send incriminating evidence on Lussier to a website called Net-Leaks. It's more than enough to take the guy down. Hard Drive and his family are finally safe. As for Becca, she calls Dax to ask him to stop the plane. Then she swipes a motorcycle to race to the airport herself. Becca screams as she sees Michael being shuffled toward the plane. She races to him, but is too late. The airplane takes off with Michael inside. As Dax pulls up to the scene, he sees an anguished Becca collapse on the runway in tears. She was so close. Now her son is gone again.
