Eleven home cooks are left in the competition and are faced with another Mystery Box Challenge. Judge Joe Bastianich asks them, "What would a true MasterChef do with those ingredients?" Today they will find out. The contestants will be cooking alongside the Michelin-starred MasterChef judge Graham Elliot. They are relieved to learn that they will not be competing against him but will have the opportunity to see what a true professional can do in one hour without any preparation.
They open their boxes to reveal rabbit, gooseberries, Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, ramps, forbidden rice, chorizo, and ginger. They have 60 minutes to whip up a stunning dish using these ingredients. Graham informs his fellow judges that he's not going to do anything crazy but instead wants to showcase the best qualities of the ingredients.
Josh tells Chef Ramsay that he's making a rabbit paella but does not know what forbidden rice is. Mike is making his grandmother's rabbit stew. He promises the chef that this is the week he'll break out of the middle of the pack.
With two minutes to go in the challenge, Graham has no food on his dish, but in the final 60 seconds he plates a stunning rabbit five ways with pickled carrot slaw and fennel panna cotta. Gordon calls all the contestants up to view the spectacular presentation.
After the cooks get a chance to taste Graham's dish, the judges take one final look at the contestants' plates before deciding the top three. First they choose Frank, who presents rabbit two ways over a vegetable medley with a gooseberry reduction. Joe tells him, "This might take you to the top."
Next they call up Cowboy Mike. This is the first time he's made the top three. He prepared seared rabbit legs with forbidden rice and Brussels sprouts after realizing that his stew was not going to work. Graham says that he nailed it.
Becky is named as the final contestant in the top three. She brings her braised rabbit leg with carrots, mushrooms, and ramps to the judges. Gordon says it is "cooked to perfection," while Joe tells her, "This might be your lucky rabbit's foot."
After conferring, the judges select Becky's dish as the winner. She gets a huge advantage in the next Elimination Test. Gordon, Graham, and Joe escort her into the MasterChef pantry, where she learns the theme of the upcoming challenge: tools of the trade. They show her a pizza stone, a wok, and a fryer. Although she has no immunity and must participate in the challenge, she gets to choose the equipment she would like to use. She also gets to assign the tool her competitors must use.
She selects the deep fryer for herself and the pizza stone for the others, hoping it will pose difficulties for them. They now have 60 minutes to make one amazing dish using the tool Becky has chosen for them.
Becky is preparing a tempura-style shrimp, while the other cooks struggle with the pizza stone. Cowboy Mike opts to skip the pie altogether and uses the stone to make lobster tail. David turns the tool into a smoker, and Monti decides to make a soda bread with her equipment.
When time is up, the judges call the cooks up one by one to inspect their creations. Mike starts with his roasted lobster. Graham says that he would never guess he used a pizza stone to prepare the dish; he thinks that the fish is dried out.
Becky is next up with her deep-friend shrimp tempura with curry infused sauce and yucca chips. Gordon calls it delicious. Christine made an Indian flatbread rubbed with chicken and topped with a fried egg. Graham tells her that it's "a very well-conceived and constructed dish."
Monti presents her roasted carrot soup with Irish soda bread. Joe loves the dish, and Gordon calls it phenomenal. David then brings his smoked lobster with roasted potatoes and bacon to the judges. They are not impressed with the look or the flavors. Joe throws it in the trash, reminding the contenders that this dish will narrow the field to the Top 10.
Before Tali comes up with his offering, Chef Ramsay walks over to his station and reprimands him for the mess he has created, calling it a disaster. When Tali presents his flatbread three-cheese pizza with duck breast and crème fraiche sauce, they are no more impressed with his cooking than his cleaning.
Hoping for better reviews, Tanya brings the judges her roasted lamb cutlets with olive cumin seed flatbread and roasted garlic yogurt. Unfortunately, her dough is undercooked, and the lamb is dry. Joe is astounded that she is serving whole cloves of raw garlic and advises her to show some respect for the people for whom she's cooking.
With all the dishes tasted, the judges must choose the worst dish of the day. But first they select the winning dish: Monti's soup and soda bread. The judges announce that Tanya, David, and Mike are in the bottom three. In the end, Chef Ramsay sends Cowboy Mike back to Georgia.
While the remaining contestants celebrate making it into the Top 10, Chef Ramsay has a shocking announcement: the judges have decided to eliminate another cook right now and move forward with a Top 9. While both Tanya and David have had highs and lows this season, Tanya is asked to leave the MasterChef kitchen.
