Skye's father shows up at the home of Karla Faye Gideon. He got her name off the "gifted" list. Karla Faye is freed from the shackles that kept her bladed fingertips hidden away. She's more than interested in joining forces in a battle against S.H.I.E.L.D. This becomes evident when she slits the throat of a guard outside a sprawling psychiatric facility. Skye's father and his growing team of super villains, which includes Wendell Levi and Francis Noche, make their way inside. Mentally unstable people on the gifted index are held at this place.

Skye has been put on the gifted index. She needs a psychological analysis and threat assessment. May reaches out to her charismatic ex-husband, Dr. Andrew Garner (guest star Blair Underwood) for help. Skye admits that she iced herself because she couldn't stop what she was doing. She was terrified. A short time later, Skye causes rumbling while asleep. She's able to make it subside once awakened.

David A. Angar has a voice that can trigger a person's central nervous system making them catatonic. Skye's father has recruited him as he takes his crew to a small town in Wisconsin. He explains why they must shine a light on the fact that the members of S.H.I.E.L.D. are the true criminals. The message "Fight On" is left on a wall at the psych hospital. This has Coulson eventually realizing the group is in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. That's where he was born. Skye's father is luring him home.

May puts the bus in the air. She's off to Wisconsin where Skye's father is already carrying out his plan. He sends Angar out to a high school football field where he screams. Students on the field crumble to the ground. Birds drop from the sky. Skye's father is overjoyed by what has transpired. He takes to the microphone in the press box to mock Coulson, who has just arrived with Bobbi. The high school kids are being threatened. This sends Coulson out to the football field where he's surrounded by bad guys.

May steps onto the field with a gun pointed at Skye's neck. She lets Skye's father know that she can be contained or put down. It's up to him. It's a showdown. Skye's father hands a microphone to Angar but is swept away by Gordon, who appears via a circular force field. Both are gone in a flash. Coulson kicks Angar in the Adam's apple so he can't scream. May takes down Francis and Bobbi neutralizes Karla. Coulson stops Wendell, too. As for Skye, she controls the rumbling she starts but quickly passes out. She can't stop her power; she can only direct it inward.

Andrew recommends that Skye leave S.H.I.E.L.D. altogether. That's not going to happen. Also not in the cards is Andrew staying on as a consultant. In other news, Mack is keeping Hunter locked up. Bobbi lies that her ex split after she broke things off with him. Mack takes Hunter to a secret location. He lets him know they are working for a secret outlier organization called S.H.I.E.L.D-the real S.H.I.E.L.D.

Skye's father sits in a room he's trashed. Gordon tells him that he's been taken away because he's causing too much noise. What happens next is not for him to decide. Skye's father steps out of the room presumably heading off to learn his fate.
