On Penny's boat after they've been rescued, Jack asks if they all agree to lie. Sayid says it's a decision that will affect the rest of their lives, and he's not taking it lightly. However, Hurley doesn't want to lie. He says telling the truth is the right thing to do. Jack reminds Hurley that they are protecting the people they left on the island from Charles Widmore. He hired people to find the island and kill them. If they tell the truth, Widmore won't leave the people back on the island alone. Hurley says they're safe, the island disappeared. Jack points out that no one will believe their story if they tell the truth, but Hurley says if they back each other up, if they all stick together, then they can make people believe them. But no one backs up Hurley, and everyone agrees to lie.

Cut to Hurley driving away from the safehouse with the unconscious Sayid next to him. Hurley doesn't know what to do and he's weaving all over the road while trying to shake Sayid awake -- when suddenly he sees police lights in his rearview mirror. It's the LAPD pulling him over. Hurley covers his panic by trying to act nonchalant as he rolls down the window when he hears a familiar voice. "What the hell were you thinking?" It's Ana Lucia! She chastises him for pulling over. What if she were real? What if an actual cop stopped him? She tells him he has to pull it together. He has work to do. She gives him instructions about what to do, most importantly to not get arrested by the police. As she leaves, she tells Hurley that Libby says hi.

On the island, Bernard struggles to build a fire. Everyone anxiously watches. Stripped of everything they had, their basic survival is now a very real concern. Tensions mount as Bernard continues to fail. Rubbing two sticks together isn't as easy as it seems. Faraday returns, and Juliet suggests they use the raft to head for a shipping lane. Faraday explains they can't simply sail away from the island. They'll need a specific bearing, and he can't calculate that until he knows where they are now in time. While Faraday is figuring that out, they need to find food and water.

Charlotte complains of a headache and not being able to remember things, like her mother's maiden name. Faraday assures her it's just stress. Soon the group devolves into bickering and fighting. There's no food, none of their things are there, and they can't even make fire -- when suddenly a hail of flaming arrows rain down on the beach. One of the survivors, Frogurt, is hit, and fire engulfs his body. It's a brutal attack, and bodies litter the beach. Sawyer yells for everyone to run! Everyone scatters, and Sawyer yells out for everyone to meet at the creek. Juliet's first inclination is to help the people hurt, but Sawyer tells her she'll be dead, too, if she stays. They hear their attackers closing in, and they run into the jungle.

Off the island, Ben tells Jack to go home and pack a suitcase. If there's anything from his life he wants to keep, pack it because he's never coming back. Ben is going to take Locke's coffin somewhere safe, and then he'll come by and pick up Jack. At a butcher shop, Ben drops off Locke's coffin with Jill. Ben tells her to keep him safe. If she doesn't, everything they're about to do won't matter at all.

Not knowing where to go or what to do, Hurley drives to his parent's house. His mom is out shopping, and his dad, Dave, helps carry Sayid inside. Hurley explains what happened at the safehouse and that they are in danger. Dave is confused and has many questions, but Hurley says they need to wake up Sayid and wants Dave's help. But then the police show up. Hurley hides Sayid while Dave lets the police in and talks to them. They leave but post a stakeout unit outside watching the house. Dave asks Hurley why the police think he killed the three guys. Hurley explains that Sayid killed them. He was saving Hurley. Dave wants to get a lawyer to help, but Hurley says they can't go public because people are trying to kill them. They try to revive Sayid, but nothing works. He needs a doctor, and Hurley suddenly realizes what he needs to do.

Meanwhile, Kate drives with Aaron away from the life she created when she gets a phone call from someone surprising. She heads to a hotel in downtown LA. At the penthouse she is greeted by Sun. It's a surprisingly nice reunion. But Kate then confesses to Sun that someone knows they're lying, that lawyers came to see her and want blood samples to see if Aaron is her son. Sun thinks they're not interested in exposing the lie but that they just want Aaron. Kate just wants to find a safe place for her and her son. Sun tells her that she needs to find out who they are and take care of them. Kate is shocked by what Sun is implying, but Sun says Kate is the type of person who can make hard decisions... just like on the freighter. Sun understands that Kate did what she had to do. If she hadn't, all of them would've died, not just her husband. Consumed by guilt, Kate is emotional and apologizes. Sun tells her it's okay and that she doesn't blame her.

Hurley's mom comes home and asks why there is a dead Pakistani on her couch. Hurley promises to explain everything but they need to help Sayid. Hurley and Dave drag Sayid through the kitchen, into the garage and into Dave's SUV. Dave drives to Jack's place and tells him what happened. Jack says he's going to have to take Sayid to the hospital, but Dave says no. The guys who attacked Hurley and Sayid will go there. Jack says he's going to do what he thinks is best for Sayid. Dave reluctantly agrees, but warns Jack to stay away from Hurley. Whatever he talked him into doing, Jack doesn't have Hurley's best interests at heart. Dave leaves, and Jack calls Ben to report in.

At Hurley's house, Hurley defends Sayid and tells his mom that Sayid is a good guy. Carmen says a good guy doesn't kill people. Hurley is in terrible trouble. The news is reporting that Hurley killed those men. Hurley breaks down and tells his mom the truth -- they lied. They lied about the crash and everything that happened, and then he tells her the truth about what happened to them on the island. That it was Jack who convinced them all to lie to protect the people left behind. Carmen listens to his seemingly crazy story and tells Hurley she believes him. She doesn't understand it but she believes him. Hurley is relieved.

At the hospital, Jack gives Sayid a shot of adrenaline and is able to wake him up. Jack assures him everything is okay, but Sayid is worried about Hurley. Jack tells him Hurley is at his parent's house. Sayid asks if anyone else knows he's there.

In his parent's kitchen, Hurley heats up food in the microwave when Ben suddenly walks in. Hurley freaks out, and Ben tries to calm him down. Ben has come to get Hurley safely out of there. Hurley wants nothing from him. Sayid warned Hurley to stay away from Ben. Ben says he's there to take Hurley to Sayid. That both Jack and Sayid trust him now because they all want the same thing -- to return to the island. Hurley thinks about it, and then bolts out of the house and runs up to the police on the stakeout. The police arrest Hurley, and he thinks he's safe from Ben.

On the island, Juliet and Sawyer hide in the jungle. They see their attackers walking close by. Thinking they are gone, Sawyer and Juliet try to figure out who they are -- when Juliet is roughly grabbed and yanked out of her hiding spot. Another guy swings a rifle butt down and BAM! Knocks Sawyer to the ground. Sawyer glares at the guy and realizes it's just a kid. The kid aims his rifle at Sawyer. He speaks with a British accent and demands, "What are you doing on our island?"

Their attackers are wearing U. S. Army fatigues, and the patch on the British guy's uniform reads "Jones." Sawyer won't answer his questions, so Jones orders his men to cut off Juliet's other hand. The first hand goes to show them how serious he is. Suddenly, rocks fly out of the jungle and hit Jones and his men, knocking them down. The guy with the machete charges, and a knife flies out and skewers him in the gut. Sawyer and Juliet grab rifles and hold Jones and his men at gun point. Then out of the shadows of the jungle steps Locke. "James. Juliet. Nice to see you."

BOOM.
