When Robin's boyfriend Nick pulls his groin playing basketball for Marshall's after-work team, he and Robin spend more time talking and less time having sex. This new dynamic, leads to Robin's realization that Nick is dumb and she decides she must break up with him. Robin takes Nick to a dessert place called Splitsville to end things but she loses her resolve. Barney shows up and confesses his love for Robin, later claiming the whole act was just a ploy to help her end things with Nick.
