Sheriff Mills suspects that J.D. could be behind the murders. He returns to J.D.'s room at the Candlewick Inn and finds Uncle Marty's cell phone among his things. Henry joins the Sheriff and together they search for J.D. Back at her father's house, Abby, is surprised by the disfigured man introduced in the previous episode. He's Cole Harken, a former deputy who worked for her father, Sheriff Mills. Cole tells Abby that J.D. is innocent and that her father hasn't told her the truth about John Wakefield and her mother. He's convinced that John Wakefield is alive and back on Harper's Island. Abby confronts her father about John Wakefield. The Sheriff tells Abby why Wakefield killed her mother seven years earlier. At one time, Abby's mother dated John Wakefield but ended their relationship. Wakefield searched and finally tracked her down to the island and found that Abby's mother had married the Sheriff. When Wakefield threatened Abby's mother, Sheriff Mills made sure that Wakefield be sent away for a long time. Wakefield spent seventeen years in prison. When he was released from prison seven years ago, Wakefield came back to Harper's Island and went on a killing spree. Abby's mother was one of his victims. The Sheriff tells Abby that rather than telling her the truth at the time, he sent her away to Los Angeles to protect her. Back at the Candlewick, Sully and Danny jokingly accuse Malcolm of stealing Muffin, the blowup doll, and go searching for her in Malcolm's room. When they open Malcolm's backpack, they're shocked to find the money from the boat, the money Booth was hiding in the woods when he accidentally shot himself. Malcolm tells the guys what happened and how Booth died in his arms. Furious for having left Booth's body in the woods, Danny punches Malcolm. Both Danny and Sully express their disappointment over Malcolm's actions and demand that Malcolm tell the Sheriff what happened. Racked by guilt and grief, Malcolm heads down to the incinerator. As he throws the money into the fire, an unseen killer comes up behind him, murders him and throws his remains in the incinerator to burn along side the money. Madison receives a note under the door of her hotel room. She thinks it's from her father and goes to meet him. She goes to the room where she thinks her father is and the door slams shut behind her.
