Through a Reed & Reed client, Kate gets involved in what she thinks will be a relatively simple credit dispute mediation. But when are things ever simple for Kate? Turns out the case isn't about credit so much as identity theft and immigration fraud. Now, Kate's got to find a way to help Sofia Pena, an American soldier and patriot-who, as it turns out, isn't actually a U.S. citizen-avoid deportation. And to do it, she's going to have to turn to an unlikely place for help: Lauren.

Busy with Sofia's case, Kate assigns Leo to try to get to the bottom of the David Smith mystery by tracking down Smith's court records. When Leo gets his hands on the file, he makes a startling discovery about Smith's crime and Teddy Reed's involvement in the case, and this new information leaves Kate and Lauren with more questions than ever.

Meanwhile, the time has come for Kate and Justin to finalize their divorce. But signing those papers is proving harder for Kate than she ever would have guessed.
