Abby's mom made an unexpected visit to the hospital to check up on her daughter and the new baby. Abby was concerned when she overheard the doctor say her son might have a heart murmur. Maggie was interrupting the doctors left and right, wanting more details on the baby's condition.

Sam walked into the ER in a daze. Weaver grabbed her and hugged her and was saddened to hear she needed a rape exam. Sam didn't tell her that her employer, Richard Elliot, had picked her and her son up at a roadside diner shortly after Sam killed her husband. Richard made sure Sam believed she'd killed Steve in self-defense.

After Kovac and Abby got into a fight over the care of their son, Kovac stormed out. Maggie interrupted to let Abby know she may have been too harsh to her baby's father. Abby snapped at Maggie and walked out on her, but not before telling her mother that she should leave, too.

Weaver had an administration meeting involving the incident with Clemente. The others thought Kovac should be fired because Clemente was his responsibility. Weaver tried to defend Kovac, but the board all agreed that he should be let go from the hospital. Meanwhile, Morris was in the ER asking for his job back.

Kovac got a minute alone with Abby and thought the two should be talking about marriage now that baby Joe had been born. Meanwhile, Maggie was watching Joe and being a nightmare to the nurses, making demands and telling them how to do their job. Things turned dramatic when Maggie pointed out that Joe was turning blue and the baby was rushed to surgery. Abby wanted to grant Kovac's wishes and have Joe baptized before surgery.

Neela didn't want to return home and face Gallant's parents, so she went to a nearby bar and started doing tequila shots with two guys she met there. They followed a stumbling Neela out of the bar. EMT, Gates was outside, there to catch her and get her out of the sticky situation. When one of the guys called Neela a name, Gates unleashed his anger and beat the guy up.

Gates took Neela home and walked her inside to make sure she was ok. She immediately grabbed a beer and started talking gibberish to Gates. As he was about to leave, Neela began kissing him! He pushed her away and apologized. Neela confessed that she was too scared to be alone. He just hugged her.

Abby and her mother watched as surgery was performed on baby Joe. Abby felt guilty for leaving her son alone and Maggie kept assuring her it wasn't her fault. Abby ended up breaking down and let her mom hold her.

Richard met Sam at the hospital to tell her that the DA came back with a verdict of justifiable homicide in Steve's death. Sam was relieved. Richard told her she should start to focus on her son; she was a good mom.

Morris was giving a presentation at the hospital about the pharmaceuticals he was selling when Pratt interrupted him. A reluctant Morris stepped out of his meeting to see what Pratt had to say. Pratt congratulated gun with the news that Kovac had offered Morris his old job as an ER doc.

Abby was rocking the baby and Maggie walked in to say her goodbyes. Abby asked her mother when she was coming back to visit. Maggie was touched. She let her mom know she couldn't have survived the ordeal without her.
