The morning of the 'Joanne's Gift' premiere, Emily struggles to get her kids off to school so she can get to the theater for the final rehearsal. After repeated, unanswered pleas to get them to come downstairs, she screams "Come down right f**king now or I'm really going to lose my s**t!" Em finds Noah in the bathroom combing his hair for nits. She apologizes, but he remains stonily silent.

Em and Doll's mothers both fly in from England for the show's premiere. Noah is noticeably friendlier and more accommodating with Emily's mom than he is with Doll's.

Doll and Em arrive late to the theater, where they're met by Buddy, who's running damage control with the two livid actresses. Both Evan and Olivia are extremely insulted by the edits that Em and Doll have made just six hours before curtain. Doll and Em admit that the changes were made out of jealousy, but quickly turn on each other when it comes down to who is ultimately to blame.

Later, Emily has lunch with her mother where she worries about the impending test results from the doctor. Her mother assures Emily that her fear of throat cancer is unfounded, and a short while later Em's doctor calls with good news. Her throat is fine; she just needs to scream at her kids less.

Shortly before premiere, Doll and Em, each with bouquets and bottles of champagne, rush to the theater. Inside the dressing room they discover a curt note from Evan and Olivia, who have both dropped out of the play. Faced with canceling the show entirely, Emily decides that she and Doll will play their parts as originally intended.

Right before the curtain rises, Emily suffers a bout of vertigo -- a result of her fear of heights. Doll soon joins her onstage and their initially stiff, awkward performance relaxes as they get comfortable under the spotlight. They complete their first show and bow to great applause.

The following morning, Doll wakes to the sound of electric clippers. After seeing his beard as a point of contention in 'Joanne's Gift,' Noah is ready to shave it off. He teases Em: "You didn't have to write a whole play about it. You could have just asked." Emily smiles and tells him that she doesn't want him to cut it off after all, and that she needs him to keep it.
