Doll & Em Episode 2.05 Episode #11

At the theater, Emily works with Olivia and Evan on the new, absurd changes she's made to 'Joanne's Gift' following her encounter with Virginia Woolf. Meanwhile, Doll scrambles to answer a long-awaited call from Ewan McGregor. She misses the call and begins to leave him a voicemail, but mid-message she leans over and throws up on the sidewalk.

Doll rushes into the theater and interrupts rehearsal to tell Em that Ewan finally called her back. Olivia and Evan complain to Doll about Emily's crazy new ideas -- among them a cardboard boat costume that Evan is not keen on wearing. "All these last minute changes just honestly reek of indecision and fear," she complains. Casually, Dolly tells Evan to not be a "c*nt" about the boat costume, leaving the actor speechless. Emily tries to explain that the word has a different meaning to the English -- that it's used as a term of endearment.

Em goes with Doll to a doctor, who asks Doll to take a pregnancy test. Doll insists she can't be pregnant because she and Ewan didn't actually have sex. While Doll is in the bathroom, Em gets the doctor to evaluate her throat. Doll returns to the exam room stunned; the test is positive. Making matters worse, she gets a text from Ewan saying he's heading to New Zealand for the next eight months.

Noah and the kids return home; they tell Emily that they had a great dinner with Olivia when they couldn't find Em at the theater. Em's daughter tells her that Olivia is just like her, except younger. "And funnier," her son adds.

Em and Doll sit down to discuss edits to their play, but they're both distracted with their strained marriage and pregnancy, respectively. Dolly admits she did have sex with Ewan but didn't want to "dwell" on it because she wanted the encounter to seem more romantic than it was. Jealous of Evan and Olivia's youth, Em and Doll start making cruel edits to their characters.

That night, Em reveals her worries to Noah about 'Joanne's Gift.' He's supportive until he discovers lice shampoo in their bathroom. When he finally pries the truth from Em about the source of the nits, Noah loses his temper with Emily for covering for Doll. He storms off to sleep on the couch. Emily shouts after him that Doll is pregnant. "Congratulations," he responds. "I suppose you're the father?"
