With Zed out of town, Chas and John follow the recent blot of blood on the scry map to Alabama, where a young girl somehow escaped a vicious double homicide that left both her parents dead. John visits the scene of the crime and uses a Mayan spell to see a vision of the past - and it reveals the daughter was possessed by an entity that left after the murders. Once that entity finds a new body, John predicts it will likely strike again.

After a little legwork and access to some helpful case files from local police, John discovers that this entity has ties to several murders of parents by their children, including one from decades earlier that left the now-mute murderer, Marcello, in a psychiatric facility. In tracking the addresses of each set of victims, he discovers they form a straight line. Using a nifty device and some frankincense, John and Chas identify the house that fits the pattern and determine that a malevolent spirit must live inside. Sure enough, a child named Henry recently changed his good-natured behavior in favor of a spate of creepy and strange activity - including the destruction of pumpkins with a carving knife and luring his father into a glass-bulb-filled kitchen that caused deep cuts in his dad's feet. John spies on Henry at school during recess and witnesses Henry severely injure a classmate during a scuffle. This must be the kid.

John approaches Henry's parents and explains that an ancient entity exists inside their child, but the father remains suspicious and ends the conversation with both a swift right hook to John's jaw - and charges that send John to jail. John nurses his injury in a cell, certain of the parents' impending doom, until Manny appears with solid advice. In order to save the child, he suggests remembering what it's like to be one...

Another incident with Henry leads his mom to finally call on John, who reveals only one option: a seance that will trap the soul in place forever. She agrees to assist and joins John and Chas at the location of the entity's first murder, the childhood home of Marcello. But the seance fails. Could this mean that Marcello wasn't possessed in the first place? It's not until the trio returns to Henry's house that John notices the trigger to the violence: conflict.

Henry bolts before John can contain him and it leads to a chase that ends inside a Halloween-themed carnival. John eventually comes face-to-face with Henry, who wields an axe and appears unmoved by John's psychological tactics - until John names him as Marcello, the original parent murderer. Marcello's acute rage stemmed from the torture he endured from his own parents and resulted in the release of psychic energy - that's what infiltrated Henry and the children before him. So by naming Marcello, John manages to rip the angry spirit away from Henry's body. Although this saves the boy, the spirit travels back to its rightful place, the man with all the boyhood rage, Marcello... who suddenly awakens from his catatonic state at the psychiatric facility and erupts with anger, restrained by several administrators, no doubt shocked by his abrupt change.
