Simon begs to take a helicopter ride during a routine supply run. As you may have guessed, he has an agenda. He wants to be dropped off at his farm so he can tend to his crops. Make that his acre of pot. After Simon assures the crew that he has permission from Colonel Marks, they agree to let him hitch a ride. Think he really had the okay from the colonel? Nah.

Simon's farming adventure is put on hold when the medevac helicopter receives instructions for an emergency mission. Not exactly what Simon signed up for, but he has no choice but to land in the middle of gunfire to rescue an injured soldier.

Back at the clinic, Rebecca is making rounds to check on recovering patients when she discovers that a car accident victim has a blown pupil. Not a good sign. They need to perform an extremely serious brain procedure. One piece of the surgical puzzle is missing: Simon.

Bobby treats a sleep-deprived lieutenant named Bettany who has been sent to the Role 3 by his commanding officer. The lieutenant believes sleeping pills will do the trick and he should be on his way, but Bobby knows something's up with this guy. That's why he asks Grace to evaluate him.

The lieutenant seems to be digging his own grave. Everything that comes out of his mouth sounds slightly disturbing, though he's quick to acknowledge it. Bettany asks for some water since it doesn't look like he's going anywhere anytime soon. Or is he? Grace returns to the questioning room to find that the soldier is gone.

With Simon over an hour away, Colonel Marks appoints Rebecca temporary acting neurosurgeon. Simon will have to relay instructions over the phone. Unfortunately, the communication doesn't seem technically possible until Lieutenant Bettany pops up with a helpful solution to their problem. As troubled as this kid is, he still has what it takes to help save a life.

Rebecca is prepped. Now all she has to do is take directions for brain surgery via walkie-talkie from a doctor who's performing surgery in a chopper that is being shot at while he's vomiting from turbulence. No problem. Both docs rally to save their patients.

When Grace again meets with Bettany, things get a little weird. Even the lieutenant admits that something's not right. He's headed for a fall. Grace has no choice but to have him discharged. It's time for this brave soldier to go home.

Simon is summoned to the shooting range where Colonel Marks teaches him a drinking lesson. Well, it is a lesson that involves alcohol. Marks takes aim and shoots Simon's supply of vodka bottles. That'll teach him! Actually, the colonel was enjoying the booze earlier, so we're pretty sure those were just bottles of water. Another long, grueling day finally ends with the most unexpected thing in Kandahar yet.. silence.
