Retired P.D. commander Perry introduces Voight to his nephew, Carter, a suburban cop with a big problem - he knows his unit robs drug dealers and forges warrants, details that make him nervous. In other words, he wants out and Perry believes Voight has the wherewithal to assist. Voight agrees to help and pulls in a hung-over (and late for work) Lindsay to run point. Despite her drug-addled night with her old friend Landon, Lindsay forces herself to confront Roland, the dirty unit's sergeant, and spins a story about him owing Intelligence a favor on account of a botched deal. In concert with some strong-arming tactics from Voight, Roland agrees to team up with Intelligence to hit a new target.

Voight stages the target in coordination with Narcotics, a total set-up meant to catch the dirty unit in the act of an illegal seizure. Except when they bust inside and find less cash than expected, Roland puts his gun to the head of a young girl. His move requires Lindsay to shoot him in the vest to keep the peace, and that causes Intelligence to swoop in for the arrests. They toss Roland and his unit in jail and the case seems over... until the internal hearing. Both the lawyers and P.D. brass agree that without sworn testimony from Lindsay and Carter, not enough evidence exists to keep Roland and his unit in jail. Shortly after their release, Perry and Carter contact Voight, concerned about repercussions Carter could suffer by testifying. Gunshots interrupt the discussion - Carter manages to duck just in time, but Perry's not so lucky. Voight rushes to the crime scene to find Perry already dead and Carter on the way to the hospital. He shoves his way into the ambulance to interview Carter and the kid finally admits to taking cash from the Latin Kings, a major Chicago gang, a few weeks back. And one of the shooters in his uncle's murder looked like one of them.

Back at District 21, Lindsay skips a mandatory drug test (protocol after an officer fires a weapon), certain she would fail due to her recent binge. But when Voight confronts her about it she attempts to reassign the blame to Landon - a dishonest move that feels rather reminiscent of Lindsay's mom. Voight recognizes this and places Lindsay on temporary leave until she can clear the drug test.

Meanwhile, Olinsky receives a mysterious call from a woman named Linda and meets her in Millennium Park. Turns out she and Olinsky engaged in a relationship years ago while he worked undercover and Linda just found out about his role with Intelligence. Angry about his lies - he also withheld his marriage from her - she assures him that he owes her big time. That debt comes to the forefront later when Olinsky takes another call from a juvenile detention center. The woman on the other line, Michelle, asks for his help... and claims that he's her dad.

A different claim sends Intelligence to a club for a complicated snatch-and-grab based on a tip from one of Antonio's informants. The team creates a diversion to occupy club security, and finds their Latin Kings suspects inside. After Voight presses them for information using a high-powered lighter, he learns that Roland organized the shooting and vowed to take care of the "lady cop" on his own. As this settles in for Voight, men from Roland's unit surprise Lindsay and her friend Landon at her apartment. As the dirty cops debate whether or not to kill them both, Voight alerts Roman and Atwater to the situation and they break down Lindsay's door just in time. With a little (painful) convincing, the dirty cops give up Roland's location.

Voight rushes out to Roland's location on his own and discovers Roland by himself with a million dollars in cash. Roland confesses to admiring Voight and makes him an offer he believes will save his skin - why not split the money 50/50? He reminds Voight of his reputation, his past, and makes a convincing appeal... except Voight chooses to reject the offer and instead places Roland in cuffs.

Combined with recent news that he was cleared in the suicide case, Atwater's recent save at Lindsay's apartment impresses Voight enough to send him back up to Intelligence. Although the bump drops Burgess back down to patrol, she receives a different, life-changing offer to distract her from her career - Ruzek asks her to marry him. She pauses in shock before accepting his proposal, and the two love birds embrace, excited for their future.

Antonio receives good news too after his push to raise money for a boxing gym buyout fizzles based on lack of funds. Voight hands over cash from the dirty unit's bust that will cover all the remaining expenses and allow Antonio to pursue another dream of his on the side - owning and operating a boxing gym.

But not everyone's dreams feel as realized in Intelligence. Voight seeks out Lindsay and locates her in a sadly familiar space - Bunny's bar. Depressed, Lindsay believes that all her friends and family end up hurt, so why keep going? With Bunny's support, Lindsay does the unthinkable: she passes Voight her badge and gun. Voight tries his best to convince her otherwise, but Lindsay refuses to listen. She quits Intelligence, looks away as Voight exits... and takes another swig from her beer.
