No sooner does the Intelligence team welcome back Lindsay after her short stint on a task force than Antonio receives an urgent call from his sister Gabriela from Firehouse 51. He ducks out to talk with her, and she fills him in on the dire situation concerning Adrian Gish, the suspected arsonist who killed Shay, her friend and fellow paramedic. They visit Gish's office, and Antonio fakes an assault in order to pull him in for questioning. But just as Gish starts to respond to Voight and Antonio's interrogation, his lawyer ends the conversation.

Intelligence develops a plan to apply pressure to Gish wherever he goes and attempt to catch him in the act of another arson. However, what they find defies expectations - Gish stole his name from a man who died in a fire 12 years ago. Although Gish's lawyer proves the legality of the name change (and also threatens to sue the department), Voight dismisses him. Legal or not, Gish uses an alias and can't be trusted. This instinct proves correct when his given name also turns out to be false - Chief Boden from Firehouse 51 recognizes it as the name of a fallen firefighter from an arson 20 years ago.

The team escalates their surveillance of Gish and he winds up in a tense situation with Burgess and Roman at a pizza joint. He accuses them of following him, and moments later he approaches Lindsay and Halstead on the street and issues a veiled threat of underestimation - followed by the explosion of Burgess and Roman's patrol car. He smiles - yet another fiery act no one can trace back to him.

They dig into Gish's history and discover that his family died in a fire and that he still lives next door to the empty lot. A quick search of his apartment reveals an entire corner dedicated to photos of Gabriela - and a computer program engineered to send false texts directly to Gabriela's phone. Gish has lured her into a trap!

Led by Antonio, Intelligence races to find his sister, but it's too late - she follows Gish thinking he's her roommate, only to end up stuck in an elevator that Gish fills with gasoline. He holds the lighter above her, about to drop it and incinerate both of them - until Antonio arrives and snipes him from one floor up. Gish's lighter plummets, certain to ignite the floor soaked in gasoline - but Gabriela manages to catch it. Relief washes over her...

Later, Lindsay begrudgingly meets her mom, Bunny, at a diner. Their relationship remains strained, but Bunny assures her this meeting concerns her new job working the desk at a rental company and a bloody glove she found in a man's rental truck. Lindsay is intrigued...
