It's breakfast at the Voight household and he and Justin's girlfriend Olive continue to bond. She admits to needing financial help with the baby on the way and Voight offers to help, once again hitting up the safe in his basement for cash. But before he opens the safe, two thugs appear right behind him - and they want all his money. Voight refuses and a fight breaks out - despite a valiant effort, they beat him unconscious.

Back at District 21, Halstead and Lindsay wonder about the whereabouts of their leader - Voight's never late and never sick. They decide to check up on him at his house and instead of finding Voight in bed, they discover traces of blood in the basement and a missing safe. It all points to a kidnapping and when Atwater pulls secret surveillance footage from a hidden camera, their concern is confirmed. The footage returns a one solid I.D. on a known criminal named Marks and quick ping on his cellphone gives them a destination. Before they leave, Olinsky demands the hunt for Voight and his captors stay in-house to minimize any blowback if a direct link exists between the criminals and Voight.

Meanwhile, Voight wakes up cuffed to a radiator with Marks and the other thug demanding the code for his safe. He sustains more beating, but only yields the code when they roll in Olive and start to suffocate her with a plastic bag. Seconds after the thieves open the safe and exit with Voight's money, Intelligence breaks in and saves Olive from certain death. She confesses to giving up Voight's address under duress from Marks days earlier after he threatened to kill her baby... and slashed her across the stomach to show his seriousness. Voight takes a look at the scar on her stomach and requests that the hunt for these men remain unofficial.

Olive gives Voight the name of another possible lead, a friend of hers named Josie. Armed with a baseball bat and a wrench, Voight and Olinsky pay a visit to Josie and her boyfriend. She stays mum until Voight breaks a couple of her boyfriend's fingers - then she gives up the other thug's name, Gregorie. Unfortunately, the investigation stops there - without seeking outside help, Intelligence has no way to locate Marks and Gregorie.

Lucky for them, Marks turns himself in at the district, strategizing that prison would afford him protection against Voight's wrath. However, he thought wrong - Voight pulls him out of 21 and drives Marks out to an abandoned industrial park. He puts a gun to Marks' head with a simple demand: if Marks brings him Gregorie, Voight will save his life. No Gregorie, no other guarantee. A terrified Marks agrees to the deal and tips Intelligence off to a planned meeting with Gregorie at a pier where they plan to board a boat to Canada. They set up Marks with a wire and everyone in Intelligence accompanies him undercover to the pier, except when Gregorie arrives he sniffs out the team and kills Marks with a quick shot to the head. Chaos ensues and Gregorie takes a hostage, but Halstead and Lindsay surprise him from behind and strip him of his weapon.

Voight elects to drag the prisoner away on his own to the industrial park and, like before, places a gun to Gregorie's head, with every intention of ending the man's life... but instead, to the shock of Sergeant Platt, he brings Gregorie back to the station to spend his life in prison.

Later, at his house, Voight shares a moment with his son Justin who's on leave from the Army. He hands Justin an item he recovered from the safe - his wife Camille's engagement ring. He suggests Justin make an honest woman out of Olive. His mom would have loved her. She loved everyone.
