After a shooter kills Mr. Kaplan's crew to send a message to Red (James Spader), Red tells Liz (Megan Boone) about an annual meeting of a criminal syndicate called the Shell Island Retreat, and urges her to track down one of the members in order to find the rest of the group. He gives her select details on one Shell Island attendee and the task force locates him. The catch? He claims he's Raymond Reddington. The task force is skeptical of the man who calls himself Raymond, but he knows all about the Blacklisters and thus ought to be taken seriously - despite the fact that he insists Red is a poser, using Liz for his own benefit.

Raymond offers the location of the upcoming retreat in exchange for his freedom, so the team puts a wire on him. When he arrives, Red promptly accuses him of being an imposter, saying Shell Island leader Marcus Caliguiri hired Raymond to pretend to be Red and turn himself in to the FBI. To prove it, Red points out that Raymond is wearing a wire. Once he admits the ruse, Red kills Raymond and Caliguiri. However, Red eventually reveals to Liz that he knew the imposter all along; he was Gregory Devry, a master con man and a dear friend of Red's who suffered from terminal stomach cancer and wanted to be euthanized. So Red had him pose as a doppelgänger to clear his own reputation, at the same time granting his friend a final favor.

Meanwhile, Tom (Ryan Eggold) proposes to Liz, but she's reluctant, though they still share heated moments of passion. Red instructs Tom that he's not to marry Liz - he married her over Red's objections once, and it won't happen again. Liz faces difficulty adjusting to post-fugitive life, and a man in a parking lot assaults her for being a "traitor." She winds up in the hospital, where a doctor tells her she has broken ribs... but her baby will be fine.
