Batman finds the lair of the villain Tow-Face and defeats his two rooftop guards. He drops into the double dip ice cream factory and confronts Two-Face and his remaining two henchmen. Batman challenges Two-Face to flip his two-headed coin to see if he'll go with good or evil. Two–Face flips and the coin comes up on the clean head. He attacks one of his thugs while Batman takes on the other. They emerge triumphant and Two-Face explains that the first flip was for his men, and the second one is for Batman. The villain flips again but Batman punches him unconscious and admits that justice isn't a two-way street.
Later, Batman flies to a stone pyramid in South America. Inside he finds an enormous spinning gyroscope. Equinox appears to say that he knew Batman couldn't resist his invitation, and that the ancients built the gyroscope to keep the Earth turning. Without it, the planet will stop turning and be locked in eternal balance between freezing cold and scorching heat. However, Batman reveals that he's brought an ally: Dr. Fate, who teleports in. Equinox dismisses the new arrival as a mindless servant of Order and animates two serpent statues to attack the heroes. Batman defeats his by using anti-magical Nth metal bracers and goes after Equinox. The villain proves as powerful as in their last encounter, casually tossing Batman aside and warning that someone with their soul in perfect balance must sacrifice another to destroy the gyroscope.
Dr. Fate blasts apart his attacker and fires a mystic bolt at Equinox. The villain reveals that he commands the magicks of both Orders and Chaos, catches Fate's blast, and sends it back at him. Batman is equally powerless as Equinox uses chaos magic to thwart his attacks. They struggle and Batman to send Equinox falling into the gyroscope, destroying it and seemingly killing the villain. Dr. Fate teleports them both away just in time as the pyramid explodes, but warns that Equinox died just as the villain planned all along. Batman prefers to go to the Batcave and use technology, but Dr. Fate insists on magical research. They are forced to teleport to Fate's tower when another animated serpent statue appears to attack them.
At the tower, Dr. Fate attempts to meditate on the problem but is disrupted by a backlash of chaos magic. He uses a mystic orb to reveal that creatures of chaos are attacking Atlantis, and striking at other spots all over the world. The two heroes teleport to a city where dinosaurs from the distant past have been transported to the present. While Batman helps the civilians, Dr. Fate discovers that his mystic energy is backfiring due to the influx of chaos magic. With time running out, Dr. Fate teleports them to the Courts of Order and Chaos. Nabu and Typhon, representatives of Order and Chaos respectively, are waiting for them. Batman demands answers and the two Lords explains that the diametrically opposed cosmic forces combined their efforts to create a child who would become Equinox, a balance point between the two forces and put an end to the eternal war. When one side or the other gained the upper hand, Equinox would counter by assisting the other side. However, the strain destroyed Equinox's sanity, and he has decided to destroy both sides. He has become obsessed with Batman, who believes he can counter him. Equinox tricked Batman into destroying his physical body so that he could be reborn as a god and draw upon the energies of both sides.
Equinox appears in the Courts and challenges both sides. The Lords combine forces against him but he easily defeats them and takes all of their energies. With only seconds to spare, Nabu and Typhon teleport the two heroes back to Earth. Batman and Dr. Fate look up to find that Equinox, now wearing armor that combines aspects of both forces, has grown to giant size and plans to destroy all of creation. He thanks Batman for helping him to become a god. Dr. Fate tries to attack him but is powerless against the stolen magic of his masters. When they realize that no one hero is powerful enough to take on Equinox, Dr. Fate teleports heroes from across the globe to lend their powers and abilities to a single champion. They discuss which one should wield the power and Dr. Fate insists that Batman, a force for Order who incorporates Chaos, is the suitable candidate. With a spell, the sorcerer takes the abilities of the gathered heroes and gives them to Batman, who grows into a gigantic armor-wearing figure.
The surprised villain is taken aback but soon regains the initiative. Batman teleports them into outer space but he is still unable to gain the upper hand. Dr. Fate uses the last of his power to teleport there and advise Batman to focus. The hero directs all of his combined powers against Equinox in a brilliant tactical display, but it still proves insufficient. Batman realizes there is only one way to win... by surrendering. He bows down before Equinox, but warns that the villain's plan to destroy all of creation and force it to be reborn in a balanced state is a sign of chaos. Equinox insists that he is perfectly balanced, but Batman points out that the excess chaos in his nature forced him to rebel against those who created him. Equinox realizes that Batman is correct and is shocked at the discovery that he's he very imbalance he was created to combat. Batman strikes at the perfect moment, knocking Equinox back into the energies he was prepared to unleash. Dr. Fate teleports them back to Earth and returns everyone's powers. With the threat of Equinox eliminated, Batman insists that they did it all together: the Brave and the Bold.
