Synopsis

On the icy streets of Novosibirsk, Russia, Tammy & Victor shocked their friends Margie & Luke and Cara & Jaime by ditching them after agreeing to work together. Margie & Luke had the last laugh when they won the leg while Christie & Jodi fell from first to last.

ALL ABOARD!

Departing the Pit Stop in first place at 12:34pm, flight attendants Christie & Jodi opened their clue instructing them to ride the Trans-Siberian Railway across nearly 400 miles of frozen tundra to the city of Novosibirsk. Once there, they had to race to the Puknte Technicheskovo Kontrolya to find their next clue.

Arriving at the train station with sisters Kisha & Jen, the four women purchased their tickets for the next available train to Novosibirsk departing at 10:26pm. With over nine hours until the train left, all seven teams had plenty of time to meet up at the station.

When the sun set over Krasnoyarsk, the cold temperatures became downright frigid as a sharp wind blew snow in the faces of racers boarding their train to Novosibirsk. Kisha groaned, "I'm so over this cold weather." Jaime added, "It's like Siberian hell." Margie had a more upbeat attitude as she gleefully pointed out the sleeper cars where they would be spending the night.

The teams all slept as the train steamed across the frozen, white expanse of Siberia. The next morning, as the train neared Novosibirsk, Mike told Margie & Luke that he didn't sleep very well in the sleeper cars. When Luke jokingly gave a less than sympathetic reply, Mike quipped, "He's going to create a whole new archetype, the sinister deaf kid." Acknowledging Luke's use of the Blind U-Turn in the previous leg, Mike added, "I'll just keep limping so he doesn't U-Turn me."

When the train pulled into the Novosibirsk station, Kisha & Jen took an early lead as the athletic sisters motored off the train with lightening speed. However, they quickly fell into last place due to Kisha's decision to break off from the other teams as everyone searched for taxis. Jen chastised her sister, saying, "I'm extremely frustrated because our strategy should definitely be to follow the pack."

SIBERIAN DETOUR

Continuing their alliance, mother and son Margie & Luke and former NFL cheerleaders Jaime & Cara arrived at the Punkt Tehnicheskogo Osmotra together in first place to find a Detour with the choice of Russian Bride or Russian Snowplow. In Russian Bride, teams had to drive a car with four-speed manual transmission, known as a Lada, to a large Soviet-era apartment complex and search for one of the waiting brides. Once found, teams drive the bride across town to a church where her groom awaited. When the photographer snapped their wedding picture, the groom would hand teams their next clue. In Russian Snowplow, teams drove a Lada downtown to Stadium Spartak where they would each take a turn operating a cumbersome snowplow through a training course.

DITCHED

Believing that finding a bride and then delivering her involved too many opportunities to get lost, Margie & Luke and Cara & Jaime decided to drive to the snowplows. As they were getting accustomed to their new mode of transportation through Novosibirsk, sibling lawyers Tammy & Victor pulled up offering to work with the two teams. On their philosophy of alliances, Tammy remarked, "I wouldn't say Victor and I have an alliance with any of the teams. When we can work together we try to."

The three teams set off in a caravan of Ladas through the snowy and icy streets of Novosibirsk without any firm grasp of where to find the stadium. Leading the way, Jaime & Cara spotted a gas station and pulled over for directions with the other teams. As Jaime & Cara and Margie & Luke asked the station attendant for help, Victor & Tammy remained in their car and asked a nearby taxi driver for directions independent of the other two teams. After the driver pointed straight ahead, the sibling lawyers took off without informing the other teams who quickly returned to their cars in hopes of catching up to them. A perturbed Jaime noted, "I'm so aggravated with Victor and Tammy right now. They'll follow you until they can find something on their own and then they'll ditch you."

The drama continued when Margie & Luke caught up to the fleeing Tammy & Victor who stopped one more time for directions. As Tammy got out of the car to ask a local, Margie & Luke, directly behind Tammy & Victor, summoned a different local to their car for directions. Looking in his side mirror, Victor saw the local give Margie visual directions to keep going straight and called Tammy back to the car to once again take off. Still getting directions from the local, Margie yelled and honked her horn for Victor to wait, but he sped off simply saying, "Sorry." A furious Margie said, "Can't trust Victor I don't think anymore."

Deciding they'd rather "party with virgin brides than snowplows", father and son Mel & Mike arrived the sprawling Soviet-era complex and found a very lovely young bride dressed in a beautiful white wedding dress. After getting directions from a local, the father and son began the drive across town to deliver the bride to her anxiously awaiting groom.

PLOWING AHEAD

For all of drama that erupted from Tammy & Victor's actions, the three teams all arrived together at Stadium Spartak. With different sorts of trucks and plows on the periphery of the course, Jaime & Cara and Margie & Luke became confused as to what kind of vehicle they needed to use, which allowed Victor & Tammy to take an early lead when Victor climbed into the cab of the massive plow. Victor operated the controls of the plow to move through the course as Tammy guided him using a colored paddle. Tammy joked, "A Mercedes Benz would be the biggest vehicle I've operated so this will be amusing." When Margie took the controls of her snowplow, Luke gestured with all his might to keep his mother on the training course. Luke described the situation: "My mom was driving crooked and I was telling her to turn and she wasn't paying attention." Tammy's concerns about driving were unfounded as she made it through the course as easily as her brother did. The three teams maintained the same close distance between each other as they all completed the task. Opening their next clue, the teams were tongue tied as they read out loud that they needed to drive to Gosudarstvennaya Publichnaya Nauchnaya Tekhnicheskaya Biblioteka, the largest library in Siberia.

LOST

After winning the last leg in Krasnoyarsk, flight attendants Christie & Jodi had a much harder time of it in Novosibirsk. They chose the Russian Bride Detour, and while looking for the Soviet-era apartment complex, the women stopped off to ask a group of local men for help only to discover the men were completely drunk. A repulsed Christie said, "That guy touched my butt and asked me my name." Once they had their bride safely in the Lada, Christie & Jodi thought they got help from "a guardian angel" who led them to the church. However, when they walked up to the church, they realized it wasn't the right one. The man had led them in the entirely wrong direction. Trying to keep a positive outlook, Christie joked, "We'd be lousy wedding planners, huh?"

Sister Kisha & Jen had difficulties of their own mostly because of Jen's inability to drive the Lada on the snowy streets of Siberia. Several times, Jen stalled the car in a busy intersection putting them in sixth place, ahead of only Christie & Jodi. Jen noted, "The roads are very icy. Shifting into a gear is quite complicated." About the design of the roads, she added, "There was no structure at all. You didn't know if you were in the right lane. It was very chaotic." Very slowly but surely, the pair continued onward hoping to stay out of last place.

BARE MINIMUM

Continuing to maintain their lead, Margie & Luke, Tammy & Victor, and Jaime & Cara all arrived at the library together to find a Roadblock. In it, one team member had to partner with two local runners, and first warm up for a mandatory ten-minute period. Then, they had to participate in a winter run the way only the bravest locals do...in their underwear. With their Siberian partners, they had to run approximately 1.4 miles to the Novosibirsk Ballet and Opera Theater where their teammate who traveled there separately would be waiting for them. The reunited team would then go into the theater to find the Pit Stop for this leg of the race.

Luke was first to emerge out of the warm up tent in his underwear, and he never looked back. The young man ran stride for stride with his running partners in 27 degree Fahrenheit weather through the streets of Novosibirsk. Luke later remarked, "I think I would do anything do win this race, but underpants? I don't know. I just kept looking down and kept running. I didn't want to see anyone looking at me because I was very embarrassed."

Luke met his mother on the steps of the Novosibirsk Ballet and Opera Theater and the two ran into the building where Phil waited for them. After claiming another victory, Margie & Luke received the good news from Phil that they had won a trip for two from Travelocity to St. Lucia. On their strong performance, Luke said, "First place two times, we're doing a lot better than we thought we would. We're very confident that we can win the race." Tammy ran past a walking Cara to place sibling lawyers Tammy & Victor in second place, while former NFL cheerleaders Jaime & Cara took third.

ELIMINATED?

With father and son Mel & Mike and brothers Mark & Michael nabbing fourth and fifth place respectively, Christie & Jodi battled against Kisha & Jen to avoid elimination. Both teams raced to the library in their Ladas, but Kisha & Jen made it there first. Jen stripped down with no complaints and even asked, "Don't I look hot in my underwear?" While Christie made a race of it clad in her very tiny g-string underwear, Jen outlasted her and stepped onto the mat with her sister Kisha in sixth place.

Arriving in last place, flight attendants Christie & Jodi dreaded to hear what Phil would tell them. The pair breathed an enormous sigh of relief when Phil told this that this was a non-elimination leg. Christy joked, "I was hoping I did not run through those streets naked for nothing." However, Phil warned them that in the next leg they would face a Speed Bump, a task that only they would have to complete. On their situation, Jodi commented, "We felt like we've been the underdogs since we started the race so once again we're just the underdog and we have something else that we have to do. We'll just do our best to do it."
