'Til Death Episode 1.16 The Italian Affair

Eddie is in the study listening to music on his headphones. Joy comes in and tells him he's supposed to be doing spring cleaning not going through the throw out pile . Jeff and Steph come over and ask them to go for a walk to get ice cream. Joy tells them to get out and also tells Eddie to keep cleaning. Steph starts looking through the throw away pile and finds an old roll of film; Jeff offers to have it developed. Eddie says not to worry about it so Steph says it must be because there are naked pictures on the roll. Jeff says no one really takes naked pictures, but then Steph says that some people do. He confronts her on it and she says she doesn't want to go down that road because Jeff always ends up crying in the shower when they discuss her past. Steph leaves and Eddie searches the internet for pictures of Steph.

Jeff comes back over with the developed pictures and shows them to Eddie. They are of Joy and Eddie in Italy in 1986. Eddie becomes disturbed and grabs the photos from Jeff, goes outside to the trash can and rips up the pictures. Jeff asks why so Eddie tells him the story of their trip to Italy. Eddie says that the trip was fine until the day they were leaving. They were going to get their bus to the airport when Joy started looking at some artistic Italian glass in a display. The bus left without them and Eddie got so mad that he spanked Joy. The next minute, another bus showed up to the airport and Joy was mad. They broke up after the plane ride home. Eddie says that in 20 years they have never spoken about their Italian vacation.

Jeff goes home and Steph asks how the pictures turned out. He tells her to swear not to mention the pictures to anyone especially not Joy. She starts pinching him to get him to tell her but Jeff won't say anything, so she starts guessing. After many tries, she guesses that Eddie hurt Joy. Jeff tells her what Eddie did and initially she is not shocked and says that they have playfully spanked each other before in Puerto Rico. Jeff says that he never spanked each other and that she must have spanked some other guy. He then tells her that he doesn't want to hear about Puerto Rico or Joy and Eddie's photos again. She agrees and takes a sip of her coffee and Jeff notices a picture from Eddie's Italian roll of film on the mug. Jeff asks her why she has it and she says they guy at the photo place asked her if she wanted one. Jeff then says to her that when a man asks you something, it's okay to say no.

That night at Joy and Eddie's house, Joy is taking out some trash when Eddie tries to stop her so she won't see the ripped up photos. He suggests they go to the Woodcock's house to dump the trash. They go over to do it and Joy finds mugs and a T-shirt with a picture on it of their Italian vacation. She holds it up to show Eddie and she is not amused.

At the Woodcock's, Jeff comes home with canned tomatoes to find Steph in the bedroom with a camera set up to take naked pictures. Jeff is initially excited but gets a little nervous. Steph gets him to loosen up by taking a few pictures and Jeff gets into it really quickly.

At Eddie's place, Joy is making dinner and Eddie is trying to figure out what the matter is with her. She tells him that it was 20 years ago and just to forget it. He agrees and they cook dinner. Meanwhile at the Woodcock's, Jeff is in his robe smoking a cigar while cooking dinner. Eddie comes over and tells Jeff that Joy is mad because she found the mug and T-shirt. Eddie asks for help so Jeff suggests he try the sauce he is making. Eddie asks if the sauce can help his marriage and Jeff says that it's not magic sauce. Jeff tells him that he and Steph have been taking naked photos and that they found a way to turn a negative into a positive. He suggests he and Joy do the same.

The next day, Eddie takes Joy to an Italian restaurant. Joy is a little annoyed to be going out with him. Eddie is bragging about how he made a reservation but when they get to the hostess, he finds out that he doesn't in fact have a reservation, so they wait for a table at the bar. A lady walks by with flowers and Eddie wants to buy the whole bunch for Joy but the price is $400 so he just buys one. Across the room, Eddie notices some musicians he has hired have come in, so he goes over to them and tells them that they will have to wait. They agree to wait and play while a little. He goes over to Joy and asks her how she likes the music. She asks him what's going on, so Eddie tells her he is trying to make bad memories into good ones. Joy isn't pleased and says that he can't un-spank her, so Eddie, in the middle of a crowded restaurant, tells Joy to spank him and turns around. She tells him that it is humiliating so he asks if it is so humiliating, why did she take him back. She says it's because he cried and begged. He asks her why she walked away from him and she says it's because she realizes he is a jerk and could do better than him. He says that he realized that he couldn't do better than her so that's why he fought to get her back. A diner at the restaurant (played by Ray Romano) turns around and says, "What more do you want, lady?" Joy asks Eddie if he has been sorry for the past 20 years and he says yes so she forgives him. He asks if it is okay now so she spanks him and says that now it is okay.

Back at the house, Eddie is putting his trash in the Woodcock's trash can when he finds a naked picture of Jeff. Eddie decides to put it on a baseball cap.
