'Da Vinci's Demons' Gets Season 2 Order Just Days After Its Debut

Starz has given a vote of confidence to newbie "Da Vinci's Demons". Just days after debuting the drama series about Leonardo Da Vinci on Friday, April 12, the cable channel ordered a second season of the show.

" 'Da Vinci's Demons' serves up action, adventure and history in a unique and highly entertaining way that only someone like David S. Goyer can," said Starz Chief Executive Officer, Chris Albrecht when announcing the renewal on Wednesday. "The first season premiered to strong audience engagement and we are excited to bring the next chapter of Leonardo da Vinci's adventures to audiences around the world."

Starz has given away first footage from its new series "Da Vinci's Demons", which is slated to debut in spring 2013. The newly-released trailer teases an intriguing life of the titular character, who has been warned about playing a dangerous game, but refuses to back down.

Coming from David S. Goyer who co-wrote two superhero films "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Man of Steel", the historical fantasy series is set to present the "untold' story of the world's greatest genius during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence."

At the San Diego Comic-Con, Starz debuted the first teaser for its upcoming series "Da Vinci's Demons". It has no footage from the show, but features cryptic message which hints at the major plotline. "History is a lie that has been honed like a weapon by people who have suppressed the truth," a voiceover says. "Centuries from now your own history will also be suppressed."

Coming from David S. Goyer who co-wrote two upcoming superhero films "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Man of Steel", the new TV show revolves around Leonardo da Vinci who is tortured by a gift of superhuman genius. He finds himself in a conflict between truth and lies, religion and reason, past and future. Living in a world where thought and faith are controlled, he fights to set knowledge free.

Starz Picks Up 'Da Vinci's Demons' From 'Batman Begins' Scribe

Starz has given a greenlight to an adventure/historical fantasy "Da Vinci's Demons" from David S. Goyer. The cable channel picked up the project to series consisting of 8 episodes which will start shooting in early 2012 and air in 2013 with BBC Worldwide Productions producing.

Speaking of his plan to make a show about Leonardo Da Vinci, the screenwriter of "The Dark Knight Rises" said, "Da Vinci was the original Renaissance man - a near-mythic figure that has worldwide appeal. After working with characters like Batman and Superman, it made a strange kind of sense for me to dive into the facts and legends swirling around his origins."
