'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live' Halt Production Due to Labor Dispute

Prospect Park, which produces "" and "" for The Online Network, has stopped the production on the two soap operas. The production company says in a statement released on Wednesday night, June 5 that it began a long-planned hiatus for both shows on Thursday instead of June 17 as expected before, citing a dispute with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, which represents crew members, over wage issue.

"The hiatus is scheduled to end on Aug. 12 pending resolution of this labor issue," the company states. "Right now we have 40 episodes of each show ready to post through September, and if we can resolve this issue by August, we can get back into the studio on time so audiences will enjoy uninterrupted postings of their favorite shows."

Eden Riegel and Julia Barr to Return to 'All My Children'

Two familiar faces are added to the online revival of the ABC daytime drama "", in addition to the regular cast member. Production company Prospect Park which is bringing the canceled series back to life announces Eden Riegel and Julia will return to the soap opera.

Reigel will appear as cameo guest arc returning as Bianca Montgomery, a memorable character who came out of the closet and earned her an Emmy win and four nominations. Barr will also reprise her Emmy-winning role as Brooke English initially portrayed by Elissa Leeds in 1976.

Loyal viewers of "" and "" now have a reason to be overjoyed for their favorite shows will return with new episodes. Prospect Park has finally confirmed the long-running reports about its plans to revive the show online.

The production company says that it has signed agreements with the Screen Actors Guild, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists as well as the DGA to bring the shows back via The Online Network. It's also announced that production will kick off in February in Stamford, Conn.

Following report that Prospect Park is back on its plans to resurrect "" and "" online, details on the revival of the soap operas emerge. According to various sources, the plans are for each show to air four half-hour episodes a week with limited advertising.

A recap show will be streaming on Fridays, and the shows will air 42 weeks a year. No production date is set for both soap operas, but the filming is expected to take place in Stamford, Connecticut starting February.

"It is with great disappointment that we are suspending our aspirations to revive 'One Life to Live' and 'All My Children' via online distribution," Prospect Park's Rich Frank and Jeff Kwatinez said in a joint statement. "It is now becoming clear that mounting issues make our ability to meet our deadlines to get OLTL on the air in a reasonable time period following its January 13, 2012 ABC finale impossible."

's wrath of "" cancellation is poured out in an epilogue of her autobiography "All My Life: A Memoir" which excerpt was published on New York Post Saturday, September 3. In her writing, the soap star blasted ABC daytime chief Brian Frons for his "very bad decisions" that led to the death of the 41-year-old show.

Lucci specifically pointed out that Frons hired a new head writer in August 2002, Charles Pratt, Jr., whose writing was "subpar". She also criticized his decision to move the production from Los Angeles to New York which resulted in the exit of some staff as well as the stars. Frons also pushed out the show's creator Agnes Nixon out of the frame, Lucci said.

There's one company who disagrees with the cancellation of "" and "". Vacuum maker Hoover is not only disappointed with ABC's decision to end the long-running soaps but posted a furious message on Facebook and pulled their ads from the network as a sign of protest.

The company's marketing VP Brian Kirkendall wrote, "I want you to know from me personally that we hear you loud and clear. My wife and mother are both passionate viewers of 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live', as are many of my colleagues here at Hoover. We were and are as disappointed with this news as you are."

The number of remaining TV soaps has just declined from six to four with the cancellation of "" and "". The daytime programs that used to hook tens of millions of women are losing their fans as the audience's interest have shifted with the availability of internet, cable TV and other social medias.

ABC ends the soap operas with the hope that two lifestyle shows that they have prepared as a replacement, "The Chew" and "The Revolution", would garner bigger rating at lower production cost. "All My Children" was already moved from L.A. to N.Y. to save some money but the rating continued to go down about 25% this season.
