The 'Lust for Life' singer, who claims to be contacted briefly about the chance to judge, thinks producers made the right choice by picking Steven Tyler for the gig.

AceShowbiz - Punk icon Iggy Pop has revealed he was among the stars "American Idol" producers contacted when they were recruiting judges for the current 10th season of the TV talent show. The "Lust for Life" singer, who performed shirtless on the contest on April 8, admits he has become a fan of the program over the years and he did consider the possibility of offering his opinion on the show.

He says, "It didn't go very far. There were two phone calls... I wasn't sure I was interested or available. They called me... I was curious and we spoke a couple times, and that was as far as that went."

Pop insists he would have been the wrong man for the job - and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler was a much better pick: "I don't think I could've done the right job for them on that particular show. I think Steven does a really, really good job of it."
