Kiefer Sutherland and the cast of star-studded new play "That Championship Season" had quite the scare on the eve of their official Broadway opening, a woman in the audience sparked a medical emergency after choking on a piece of candy.

The 24 star and castmates Chris Noth and Jim Gaffigan had to halt the preview as paramedics rushed to the audience member's aid. Sutherland says, "Literally someone yelled, 'Is there a doctor in the house?' And we had to stop the play and the curtain came down."

The scare ironically occurred shortly after the 24 actor warned Gaffigan that when you star in a long-running play, with a plot that often attracts an older audience, it's "not uncommon" for someone to pass away during the course of your performance.

The audience member was fine and actually returned to see the remainder of the play after the stuck candy item was removed.

"That Championship Season" opened on 6 March.
