Reformed rockers Soundgarden are back in the studio working on new material a year after reuniting. The grunge rock icons, led by Chris Cornell, have posted a photo of themselves in the studio and issued a statement online letting fans know of their plans.

The release reads, "Over the past few months, we've been busy jamming, writing and hanging out together - exploring the creative aspect of being Soundgarden. It feels great. We have some cool new songs that we are going to record very soon. Thank you for all of the support!".

Meanwhile, the group will release its first ever live concert album, Live On I5, next month. The songs were recorded at sound checks during the group's 1996 U.S. tour for a proposed album, but the project was never released because the band split soon afterward.
