But she still insists she didn't 'make it up', adding 'Nobody accuses their parents of abusing them without justification.'

Roseanne Barr has spoken out about her incest bombshell, insisting she wishes she'd waited before revealing all about the darkest part of her childhood - and admits she could have been wrong. The outspoken comedienne hit the headlines when she accused her parents of molesting her - but now she feels the whole episode was brought on by therapy and it was a terrible mistake.

In a candid TV interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired in America on Monday , February 14, the Roseanne star confessed, "I wish that some of the people around me or one of them had said, 'Roseanne, you really should wait until your therapy's completely over (before) you go public.

"I wish I had done everything that I did in a different way. I think there a lot of people out there like me now and I wanted to say that I wrote my book to talk about 'You can heal from the worst thing you've ever done and the worst place you've ever been and you can come back from it'."

"It's the biggest mistake... Calling it incest... There's this book, Courage to Heal... and there's one part in it... It said, 'If you have the feeling that this happened to you, that means it did happen to you'." Barr told Winfrey that incest was not the right word to use.

She added, "I was in a very unhappy relationship and I was prescribed numerous psychiatric drugs... to deal with the fact that I had some mental illness... I totally lost touch with reality... (and) I didn't know what the truth was... I just wanted to drop a bomb on my family."

But she still insists she didn't "make it up", adding, "Nobody accuses their parents of abusing them without justification." Her sister Geraldine Barr, who was in the audience for the Oprah show, revealed she was shocked when she saw the headline on the cover of a 1991 People magazine in a New Mexico supermarket. The incest revelation led to a rift between the sisters, and they didn't speak for 12 years.

Reluctant to talk about "such a dark time", Geraldine, who has now reconciled with Roseanne, revealed her sister's 'confession' sent the entire family to therapy. On Winfrey's show, she told her famous sister, "You and I can have different feelings; we don't have to agree on everything but, for me, I did not believe that my (parents would do that). What I learned is that hurt people hurt people and you have to heal your own hurt so you stop hurting other people."
