'Harry Potter' Franchise Gets BAFTA Honor

The film series would receive Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema trophy among others at the ceremony held later this month.

The cast and crew behind the "Harry Potter" franchise are to be honored with a special award at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) prizegiving. Potter author J.K. Rowling and producer David Heyman will accept the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema trophy at the ceremony later this month.

The hit films, about a boy wizard played by Daniel Radcliffe, will be recognized for showcasing British talent and providing a vast array of jobs for thousands of workers in the U.K. Radcliffe says, "I am thrilled that the Harry Potter film series is being honored with this award."

"I have loved every minute of making these films and to me the real heroes are the crew and the huge team of craftsmen that have made all eight of them possible - this award is a testament to their incredible work."

The final installment in the franchise, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II", is due in theaters this summer.
