Peter Jackson 'Doing Well' After Ulcer Surgery

The 'Hobbit' director is still staying at hospital as he recovers and is expected to be released from the medical facility in a few days time.

Filmmaker Peter Jackson is "doing well" after undergoing surgery to treat a perforated ulcer, but will remain in hospital for several more days as he recovers. The "Lord of the Rings" director checked into the Wellington hospital in his native New Zealand last week after experiencing acute stomach pains.

Jackson underwent an operation, and now his publicist, Melissa Booth, has revealed he is making progress and will be released from the medical facility in a few days time, reports the Associated Press. Production on the highly-anticipated "Lord of the Rings" prequel, "The Hobbit", will be postponed to allow Jackson to make a full recovery.

The production company has previously stated that Peter Jackson's surgery will only cause a slight delay to the start of "The Hobbit" filming. The movie is made in two parts with the first one scheduled to be released in December 2012 and "The Hobbit 2" slated for December 2013 release.
