Also taking nods in their respective categories are 'Iron Man 2', 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I', 'Tangled', 'Lost' and 'The Walking Dead'.

Sci-fi blockbuster "Inception" and U.S. crime drama "Boardwalk Empire" are leading the film and TV nominations at the upcoming Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards. Martin Scorsese's hit drama dominates with five nominations in the TV categories, while Christopher Nolan's Inception leads the film categories with four.

The effects artists behind Nolan's Inception will compete for the Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual-effects Driven Motion Picture prize against teams from "Iron Man 2", "Tron Legacy", "Alice in Wonderland" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I".

Other feature films nominated for their supporting visual effects include "Green Zone", "Salt", "Hereafter", "Black Swan" and "Robin Hood", while animated movies "Tangled", "How to Train Your Dragon", "Toy Story 3", "Shrek Forever After" and "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole" were nominated for an outstanding animation prize.

In television, Boardwalk earned a nod for its supporting effects alongside "The Walking Dead", "Human Target", "Undercovers" and "Lost". Effects-driven series "Caprica", "No Ordinary Family", "V", "The Event" and "Stargate: Universe" also scored nominations.

Christopher Nolan will be honored at the event with the inaugural VES Visionary Award, while producer and special effects creator Ray Harryhausen will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The VES Awards will be handed out on February 1 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.
