Country stars Rascal Flatts have been praised by the mayor of Nashville, Tennessee for their charity work in the city. The "Life is a Highway" hitmakers are keen supporters of the Jason Foundation, which raises awareness of teen suicide in their adopted hometown. They also work to raise the profile of a children's hospital in the city.

During the group's appearance at the Grand Ole Opry on Tuesday , December 14, Nashville mayor Karl Dean delivered a proclamation in honor of their work for good causes - and the musicians were delighted with the praise. Bassist Jay DeMarcus said, "We love calling Nashville home and thank everyone in this city who have (sic) helped us help the community and for being a part of our career."

Rascal Flatts have previously been presented with the Make a Wish Foundation's Shining Star Award and the Nashville Symphony's Harmony Award in honour of their philanthropy.
