The Who's Roger Daltrey Blasts Simon Cowell's Shows

He thinks people need to get away from 'The X Factor' and 'American Idol' because great bands like The Rolling Stone and The Beatles wouldn't pass the audition round.

Roger Daltrey is the latest rocker to take aim at Simon Cowell over his U.K. talent show "The X Factor" - branding the hit show a "slump" the music industry must recover from. The Who legend's rant follows Sir Elton John's recent outburst, in which he branded the talent show "a**e-paralyzingly brain crippling".

Madness star Suggs, Suede's Brett Anderson and New Order rocker Bernard Sumner have also recently lined up to blast Cowell. Daltrey claims Cowell has "belittled" music by manufacturing pop stars on his series - and he's convinced rock icons The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and his own band would never have passed the audition stage of the contest.

He tells Britain's The Sun, "We really need to break away from 'The X Factor' and 'American Idol' - that Simon Cowell thing. I really think the music industry will beat this slump and come back stronger."

"Groups like The Who, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles wouldn't have made it past the audition stage, let alone be shown on TV. That's the joke of it. The music they make on the shows is absolute tripe. He's made a good industry out of it, but it's belittled the power of music. He wouldn't know what the 'X Factor' was if it bit him on the b**locks."

I agree with Lindsey Old Rockers to set up their own scouting for talent show. Find some real band that can write their own material, play instruments and who really do have the XFactor!!!!! I could See Daltrey and Jagger as judges along with Debbie Harry :)

I am feed up with this modern trend for modern rubbish...cant remember when I last listened to the top 20 for more than 2 minutes....i have heard better local stuff...people who actually singing rather than this modern idea trying to sing...seems to me like a howel...people cat play an instrument...all facked...well all facked .....all effed up ...get some genuine people on who at least have the guts to work and improve and actually perform and entertain...Ok Roger's voice isn't quite as it was ...but all those guys can perform and hold an audiance...not a camera lens

Maybe some of the real rock legends should get together and do a REAL talent show of their own where say 6 of them coach and judge the up and comers, and give them a few pointers on playing or singing or stage antics, then they have a performance at the end which would be judged by the viewers. That is if you could have 6 rock stars agree to do anything together. LOL Maybe Lindsey, Roger, Elton, Peter Frampton, Phil Collins, and... hmmm somebody else for 6. Whaddya think?
