The 'X Factor' winner is overwhelmed by the reaction that people gave him after he came out of the closet earlier this year.
Gay singer Joe McElderry is relieved his sexuality revelation was accepted by fans - because he was so "nervous" about 'coming out'. The 19 year old, who won Simon Cowell's reality show "The X Factor" in 2009, confirmed rumors he is gay earlier this year but admits he felt anxious about how the news would be received.
He tells Britain's New! magazine, "Everybody's been absolutely outstanding. I couldn't have asked for a better reaction. I was overwhelmed. I was nervous. It's not ideal to have to tell the whole nation that you're gay! I thought, 'Oh my God, this is big stuff'."
"But once I realized who I was as a person, I thought, 'Right, I'm just going to be honest'. It makes your life easier. I'm more relaxed and I feel comfortable in myself now."
