Citing procedural reasons for the temporary reprieve, Arnold Schwarzenegger states an appeals court decision allowing the execution to be carried out would not take effect until September 30.

The "Terminator" Arnold Schwarzenegger has stalled California's first execution in five years. The former action man-turned-Governor issued an order on Monday, September 27 delaying the execution of Albert Greenwood Brown, Jr., a convicted rapist and murderer, by one day.

Schwarzenegger cited procedural reasons for the temporary reprieve, stating that an appeals court decision allowing the execution to be carried out would not take effect until Thursday, September 30. The reprieve ends at 11:59 P.M. on Wednesday, September 29.

Brown was convicted in 1982 of raping and strangling a missing teenager.

The delay of Albert Greenwood Brown, Jr.'s execution aside, Arnold Schwarzenegger has appointed actress Geena Davis to a state commission established to promote women's equality. The "Thelma & Louise" star, a Democrat, was appointed to California's Commission on the Status of Women on Tuesday, July 20.
