Angelina Jolie and Catherine Zeta-Jones are fighting it out to play Elizabeth Taylor on the big screen, according to industry reports. The two Oscar winners are in talks to play the movie icon in an upcoming film based on Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger's book "Furious Love: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and the Marriage of the Century".
Russell Crowe, Clive Owen and Colin Farrell are among the big names being suggested as possible Burton, Taylor's ex-husband. Mike Nichols is reportedly interested in directing the film.
Angelina Jolie recently wrapped the production of "The Tourist" and is set to voice Master Tigress in "Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom". Catherine Zeta Jones, in the meantime, is attached to play Cleo in 2011 "Cleopatra".

Would be best suited to play the role of Liz Taylor from others roles she has acted in.
I just saw recent photos of Stockard Channing...so I retract the portion of my statement that implies she might be too old now...just countour/shade the nose a bit and slap on some pancake foundation and she's ready! I'd so love to be in casting for biographical films. :-)
How about neither of them? They'd both be too distracting and unable to lose themselves in the part.
In my never to be humble opinion...Russell Crowe hands down - in my book he has always held a marvelous likeness to the late Burton. Casting either of the two ladies in question is ridiculous - box office pressure rather than suitability I suppose - Stockard Channing, in appearance, is "Liz" all the way..always has been but is probably beyond the age frame they are shooting for.
