Lynyrd Skynyrd's Singer Died of Cancer

Deborah Jo White passed away on Thursday, June 24 after losing her battle with cancer.

Rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd have lost another family member - former singer Deborah Jo White has lost her battle with cancer. The 58 year old, who performed as "Jo Jo Billingsley", passed away on Thursday, June 24 at her home in Alabama.

She toured with the band as one of backing singers The Honkettes for three years in the mid-1970s before leaving the "Sweet Home Alabama" hitmakers. Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and several others were killed in a plane crash months after she quit the band in 1977.

After leaving rock music, White became a minister, but she rejoined Lynyrd Skynyrd in 2006 when the band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
