Singer Alexa Ray Joel is moving on from the heartbreak that prompted her overdose last year with the help of new boyfriend Cass Dillon. The 24-year-old daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley was hospitalized in New York in December when she complained about breathing difficulties after taking homeopathic medication Traumeel.
She later revealed the breakdown was prompted by a fight with her ex-boyfriend Jimmy Riot, after he refused to accept a Christmas gift from her. She said, "I was in such a dark place. My soul was shattered. I only felt OK with him. I couldn't play a show without him. I was addicted to this man, and it spiralled out of control. My heart broke all over again."
But, six months on from her breakdown, Joel has found happiness with singer/songwriter Dillon. The pair met when Dillon was hired to play guitar on the star's upcoming album, reports People.com. And Dillon, also 24, already has a connection to his new girlfriend's rocker father - he recorded and released the charity single "Christmas in Fallujah" in 2007, a track originally written by Billy Joel.
