Fans of hit U.S. TV show "Criminal Minds" have launched an online campaign to have castmember A.J. Cook reinstated after network bosses decided not to renew her contract for another season.

The actress has reportedly been axed from the crime drama after five years, with a source telling she has been dropped for "creative reasons". But devotees are not happy about her exit and more than 12,000 fans have signed a petition calling for executives at CBS to reverse the decision.

Cook has now thanked fans for their devotion with a post on her page, writing, "Your kind words and support have made me feel wanted and loved!"

Cook's castmate Paget Brewster has also addressed the controversy. In a post on her blog, she writes, "'Creative reasons' has been an executive bulls**t excuse for DECADES. It IS financial. AJ is a dreamboat. And yes, I am hurt, too."

CBS screwed up....again. Maybe they need to no renew of their corporate contracts for next year, like those who keep axing the wrong people.....AJ Cook will be better off without CBS. CBS will suffer as that is just how "karma" works! Good Luck Ms. Cook your future is just beginning, working for unappreciative people is no way to spend a lifetime anyway. They did you a favor. The show was not the same tonight without you, although I love the rest of the cast. They need to film scenes in smaller rooms, as your presence was missed when filming in the offices, it was just not the same without you.

Once JJ leaves I will not be not be watching. I agree why fix something that is not broken. I have been a big fan to include watching the reruns rather that new shows. I will now explore my option and CBS will not be on the menu.

For being the "Number 1" TV network, CBS has really been "screwing the pooch" when it comes to keeping characters that are key to the shows. First came Warick, then Sarah, followed by Grissom of CSI. Then dropping Law & Order Criminal Intent, which was lucky enough to be picked up by USA where it is doing well. Now they are going to remove A.J. Cook from Criminal Minds where she is a key character, and a damn good one, that deals with the press and gathering information on cases that the unit could take. Ms. Cook is just as important as all of the other team members and adds both a calming atmosphere and a non-biased opinion in all cases. In my opinion the most important characters in Criminal Minds are; J.J. Garcia, and Spencer Reed. They all have unique attributes that make the show a big success. Bring Ms. Cook back and maybe you can use some of her "creative reasons" to make a great show even better.

As usual, the executives will want to squeeze a few bucks for their bonus when they had a good thing going. The entertaining world needs a new looser to replace NBC and CBS - you're it!

You start messing with the cast members, the show goes down the tubes~they have great chemistry. The network is going to lose - it's a great show JUST THE WAY IT IS~ keep the cast whole

How can you take two of the best characters and demote one and completely axe the other one. Is it because of a spin-off. First Mandy and now these two. I think you will loose in your ratings just like CSI after William left and taking other great shows off the air. I think you are making a big mistake, your show needs these characters. They practically make this show work. Who are you going to axe next? I am really disappointed as a very devoted fan.

They cut AJ Cook and Paget Brewster because they dumb enough to think they could greedily afford a SECOND CRIMINAL MINDS (Los Angeles)which none of us devoted fans wanted or will watch! CBS - the word GREED comes to mind...

NO JJ...NO WATCH. Love Paget's support of her friend and hope that CBS changes it's mind. AJ and JJ deserve a much better fate.

Yeah I was shocked that Aj is leaving. I mean she is a great character on the show. I hope they rethink this decision cause the show won't be the same without her. I was ok with Mandy leaving and Joe does a good job but this I don't think I will be able to except.

I agree with hitanimak's comments. Why do they have to change a winning combination of the cast?

I enjoyed watching Criminal Minds (guilty pleasure) in part for their strong, competent, capable female characters. By eliminating or cutting two of three female characters, but leaving the four male characters, CBS is sending a pretty clear message that women’s stories are less valuable and that female characters are more disposable. Without J.J. we are losing a competent female character who, as the show has demonstrated, as an incredibly difficult job, and who is also the normal, humanizing character; with less Prentiss we are losing a female character who is strong and who helps to balance the female victims often featured: the show desperately needs these two characters.
