Oprah Winfrey has settled a defamation lawsuit with the former headmistress of her South African school for girls. The TV talk show queen was told she would have to defend herself in court over comments she made about Nomvuyo Mzamane, but Winfrey has met the plaintiff face to face to end the saga.

She was scheduled to meet Mzamane in court in Pennsylvania next week, on March 29. The teacher accused Winfrey of suggesting she was not trustworthy in comments she made during a 2007 press conference following a sex abuse scandal at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, near Johannesburg.

A dorm matron was later charged with abusing students. Following the scandal, the principal's contract was not renewed and she returned to her adopted Philadelphia in the hope of finding work. Mzamane claims she was unable to find employment because of Winfrey's comments. The two women have now put their differences behind them and come to terms, according to their lawyers.
