Sandra Bullock almost turned down her Oscar-winning role in "The Blind Side" - she was terrified she wouldn't do "justice" to the part. Bullock received her first Academy Award on March 7 for her portrayal of Leigh Anne Tuohy, a real life mum who adopted Michael Oher and encouraged him to follow his dream of becoming a football star.
But when Bullock was first handed the script, she was reluctant to accept as she didn't think she would be able to play the role convincingly - and it took director John Lee Hancock months to persuade her to change her mind. She tells British newspaper The Times, "It took John Lee Hancock nearly a year to persuade me to meet Leigh Anne, and even then I wasn't sure I could do her justice. I also don't think I could have done this role even five years ago, but yes, having a family of my own helped clarify the dynamics in my head."
Bullock and her husband Jesse James were handed primary custody of his six-year-old daughter Sunny in 2009 after her mother was jailed on tax evasion charges.
